Weddings in Portugal

I know that this subject has been started before, but I am struggling to find information.
Does anybody know about the requirements for getting married in Portugal for non-resident Brits?
Such as is it possible to have a legally binding non-catholic church service? Is the 30 day resdience requirement for all types of wedding etc etc.

I would very much appreciate help from those who have gone thorugh the process and come out of it alive!

Confirming vows

Hi Chris, it is difficult to get married in Portugal. I tried to pretend that I lived there (although my sister does) and took all the papers that the embassy website told us we needed to produce, including our 'previous marriage' wedding certificates which I had to pay about £30 for to get copies of , we went to the register office in Lagoa with my sisters boyfriend to translate only to find out that we had to be resident and when i tried to say that I was, ( I was going to come out at least 30 days before the wedding anyway) they asked to see my residency card...dificile! Anyway we had a quiet registry office do at home then went to see Eric Britt as mentioned above and he came and married us again in my sisters garden by the pool----it was magical. Good luck!
