Places for children

Post by mbdfrances »

Hi, we are going to be staying at Sesmarias in a couple of weeks times. Never even been to Portugal before!!! We will be bringing our 5-year-old daughter. Does anyone have any tips for things to do/places to eat with young children? Is anybody else going to be around with young children that she could play with?

Many thanks

Hi,

My top tips (based on full market research by my 3 1/2 year old) are :-

1. Crazy World - about 30 minutes away - has an animal petting farm, crazy golf, bumper cars and little rides - it does not sound like much and looks a bit run down but my little one absolutely loves it. (also does fantastic pizzas for lunch)

2. Zoomarine (another 30 minute drive) - dolphin, seal, sealion shows etc. May be a bit crowded now we are getting into the season, so worth arriving early. Morally questionable watching 'performing animals' but they seem well cared for and have my son absolutely spellbound.

3. PlayOasis - right on your doorstep on the new road from Sesmarias to Ferragudo. This is a warehouse converted to a soft play area with ball ponds, climbing frames, slides etc and a terrace and garden with lovely views. Also does light lunches and drinks. Great place for them to spend a couple of hours in the shade and to play with other children.

4. Slide and Splash - huge waterpark about 5 minutes away (more suitable for smaller children then 'The Big One'). Limited amount of shade, however, so would advise avoiding the midday heat and taking plenty of high factor sun cream (or simply play 'spot the best burn' as we do as everyone parades past you)

5. Any of the fantastic beaches, naturally!

On the eating front, there are so many good restaurants, all child friendly, that you will be spoilt for choice but we particularly like the ones at Monte Carvoeiro (about 5 minutes away) which are set around a courtyard with a fountain where the children can run around and play without any danger from traffic.

Hope this is of some help. You have picked one of the best places to holiday as a family and should have a great time.
