Hey everyone its been abit since i have posted on here but im sure it will now not be the last for now. I have a situation and iam writing this post for all your ideas pleae....

The Situation - Me 17 by august il be a month away from 18 and about 3-5 other people of the same age group. All looking to get away on a break from coll in the summer start of august sort of time. Anyway we are all warming to the idea but not many ideas of where to go are forth coming, except from me and another friend. Anyway i was thinking somewhere in cvo as i will know the area nd so we will have some idea of where we are, what we can do etc anyway we just all want a break and i think cvo would be a could option, beaches, bars etc water parks near by a supermarkey the lot all local for a first time hol. But any ideas of where to stay if we were to go 7 - 14 nights all to be considered..

all sugestions will be of great intrest and help thank you all rich

I suppose it depends on your budget Cole and of course August is peak time for accommodation and flights. If there are 5 of you, it might be worth renting a small villa between you. Could work out cheaper than other types of accommodation. But you need one quite near town, as unless one of you is a minimum of 23, you can't hire a car. I don't know what it is like now, but Solferias (just outside the town i.e. first right after the Cespa garage as heading into Carvoeiro, up the top of the steep hill) used to be a popular choice with younger people, as although basic, it has all the amenities you'd probably need, if you are going to be out most of the time. I have been told it has been done up a bit though, so not sure what it is like now or the price range. I am sure some other forum members will give you some more tips or pm you with ideas. Thanx alot il look into to that one ..... also you mention renting a villa this would have been our preferred choice but we were told that most villas would not take us due to our age??? any help with this because a villa would be a much better option...

You may be right Rich. Gambrinus or Kteee are probably the best people to answer you on that one, as I am not 100% certain.

So your looking for inexpensive accommodation for 5 and Bruxy has given you some idea on that......but first of course you have to get here...I have just had a very "quick" look at flight tickets from Notts Airport and the following is the cheapest at the moment that I can find:-

Note it works out cheaper for 16days than 14days...but of course I appreciate that flights and accommodation have to tie up.

That is very useful nightrider thank you very much for that that is less than we were budgeting for around the 200 - 250 mark we were expecting for flights. if we can then find some reasonable prices on accomadation we will be on our way, thanx alot for thatvery useful information we hadnt thought off flights from east midlands but a very good idea.

How does this sound for value for money. Collina Village with First Choice -

14 Nights for 6 Adults Birmingham - Faro - £3328 (£554.67)

Thur 20 Jul -
14 Nights for 6 Adults Birmingham - Faro - £3418 (£569.67)

any thoughts on that for value?

well I'd say that was good value as, if you take off £183 from the cheapest quote (for the flight cost that Nightrider came up with) you will only be paying around £299 each for your accommodation, a bargain I think

I think a lot of owners would be reluctant to rent to a group of under-18s (rightly or wrongly!), in addition the Foreign and Commonwealth Office advises that -

A minor under the age of 18 travelling to Portugal must either:

* be accompanied by a parent or guardian,
* be met at the airport or point of entry by a parent or guardian, or
* carry a letter of authorisation to travel from a parent or guardian. The letter should name the adult responsible for the minor during his/her stay.

I've been held up leaving when U18s have not been with parents. Even though they were with responsible adults they did not have the apropriate notarised bit of paper from their own parents giving the OK

Rules are crazy sometimes. So, you can get married and have children at 16 but you can't leave the country without your parents' permission.

I am not saying whether 16 or 18 is the right age for anything but it would be more sensible if there was a standard age, when someone is considered an adult and can marry, have sex, be gay, smoke, drink, drive, travel abroad etc etc etc.

i agree. There must be someway a round this rule, does it mean we just need a letter of consent from our parents to say when we can go?? Or would having an 18 year old with us be a requirment??

Anyone who can help with that one??

I think they can refuse to accept any under-18s, not accompanied by an over-18.

Well Portugal so Portuguese law however illogical it may seem to some. The law is quite clear: there must be an adult 18+ responsible for any minors and you must have written parental approval. The law applies equally to Portuguese, permanent residents and visitors. I suspect many go through immigration without difficulty but do you want to risk flying all the way from Uk only to get to the desk and be told to get back on the plane? On a different note I don't know a single villa owner who would agree to rent unless there was an adult taking responsibility
