ROSMANINHO

Post by norbri »

On a recent visit to CVO we drove north into the Alentejo and during the visit purchased a jar of "Honey of Rosmaninho". I am not sure if the title refers to the bees or the location from which the honey comes.
Can any one help please ?

Lavandula stoechas-French (or sometimes called)Spanish Lavender.
I love all things 'lavender'..and apart from natural wildflowers like Primrose-Buttercups-Bluebells etc..
Its my favourite plant.
I grow English and French Lavender(I have one called 'Fat Hen' :) )The one in Bruxhy's pic looks like 'Papillon',which I have big bush of..and Norbri I have had the 'English Lavender' honey (delish) but not tried the French Lavender one. I will have to look out for that on my next visit :)
Next to 'Conservation studies' ..'Herbs' was my favourite course on my horticultural studies.
Lavender is part of the Mint family(Labiate) which includes : Sage,Thyme,Basil,Hyssop(another fav. of mine)..
 -sorry I'm off on the gardening ramble again :)

Lavender (lavendula officinalis) one of my very favourite essential oils - healing, uplifting, calming, amongst many other things.
Always have it in the house. :D

See you think along same lines as me Blue :) Am I right in thinking that Lavender oil is the only one you can use safely 'undiluted'?

Hi ellie :D
It is also safe to use teatree essential oil undiluted, it is one of the few oils that works on all 3 types of infection - bacterial, viral, & fungal.
I personally find it a little strong to use undiluted & would normally blend it with a base oil before application.

If you google 'aromatherapy' you should find plenty of info.

Base oil is whats mixed with the essential oils to dilute them.Sweet almond oil is the most common used but also grapeseed which is not so greasy as the almond.

Base oil is also referred to as a carrier oil especially in massage, there are many different base oils the cheapest being grapeseed, the most commonly used is probably sweet almond but people with nut allergies should be wary. A lot of the oils have different properties in their own right, jojoba balances sebum & calendula is an anti-inflammatory, so depending on what you're using the essential oil to treat the base oil can enhance its effect.
It really is facinating & there are loads of books available on the subject, if you look in Amazon you can read customer reviews which is helpful when trying to choose.
If anyone is thinking of making their own blends they need to learn about the essential oils they intend to use, some are extremely powerful & should be used with caution & always in the correct dosages a good aromatherapy book will give you the information you need. :D
