Car Prices

Just been looking at the recent survey of EU car prices, and was surprised to find that Portugal is not far out of line with the rest. However, these are pre-tax prices. An additional survey giving prices inclusive of tax, shows that in PT the tax level is about 55% to over 70%. Same figure for the UK is the 17.5% VAT. Assume the "justification" is that only rich people can afford cars? No doubt there's no tax on donkeys.
