A Casa Do Bife
Always find this good-excellent fillet steak with gi-normous portion,I can never manage a starter, just the couvert.Rest of menu good, service attentive. We go in March each year at least once or twice, managed 3 times this year as we met up with friends who wanted a good steak. They enjoyed it too!Prices are reasonable, well in March any way!

We have been going to it reguarly for nearly three years now and would recommend it to anyone, the services is good, the food is good and they will bend over backwards to help you out. It is always our first port of call after a flight with easyjet from Bristol, we just drop the bags at the house and head there for a really good meal before going back and unpacking everything.

Hi Leslie,
Thank you for your comments but I must disagree. This is a tourist location which depends on a certain standard. It is unacceptable that on the night I wish to visit this restaurant that perhaps the chef is off and the cleaner is cooking! That in my mind is wrong and should not happen. This restaurant has opened its doors to the public and the standard should be consistent each night. It is unacceptable that it is not!

I can only say again that as very regular visitors (each month from Sept - June) we have never had a bad meal or a bad experience there. I am truly sorry that you have.
Lesley Jean,
I disagree with your comment that I should alert the staff that the meal was not up to scratch. I visited Maximes, I think 3 or 4 nights and each night the quality, presentation and service was excellent. I visited El and Ela on one occasion and the food and service were impressive. I visited Villa Medici on 2 occasions and again the food and service were impressive.
Why then, should I have to mention to the staff at Casa do Bife that their food was bad? What good would that do other than they will not see me again! Why should I give them another chance to get it right? Their chef should know what is correct before it goes on the table - n'est pas?

I understand, but having been in the industry myself I know that on an odd occassion something for some reason goes wrong, this should not happen and should not be tollerated but I would have liked to have known if it was my establishment that something was not right. I understand that you would not want to go back there if you thought the service and food was that bad.
I had a similar experience at Ele and Ela, who I thought to be a very good restaurant, but, last autumn on a trip out on my own I was told that 'there are no tables free tonight' and as I walked out of the restaurant a couple came in, who had not booked and were given a table. Now that really annoyed me, for what good it did I went back in and spoke to the owner/chef and complained. I was offered a table for the next evening but refused. I have yet to go back there.
We all have different experiences I just feel that knowing the owner and the staff at this restaurant for three years now that yours was not a usual one, and that the restaurant is a good one, wether it is in the middle of winter or in the height of the summer.
Maybe we will have to 'beg to differ' on this one.

Casa O Bife
Hi Lesley Jean,
We will agree to differ. I have also been in the service trade - for a while - and we endeavoured to keep the same formula night after night. It actually worked and we had NO complaints <and it wasn't McDonalds either>.
The problem with Casa O Bife was that (a) The steak was cut wrong and (b) the stone was not hot enough! When this was pointed out to the small silver haired waiter - he came and cut the steak and pushed it around on the stone. <I don't really need people to cut my steak!> After 5 minutes of again trying to cook this badcut steak and its non-cooking we called him back. He said that it was ok and walked off. Now Lesley Jean, that is not good enough in my book...... If, in your day of the service industry and, indeed in my day, that would have been whipped away and replaced. Alas not here. I will not be back! On your point of El and Ela - that does NOT at all refer to the food in the premises - only to the whim of the staff!
