Building a shelf
I would like to build a shelf made from wood measuring approx 1 metre x 40cms and then tile it. It is to be outside on the balcony and will go above the airco unit which is wasted space anyway.
It is intended to use this as a worksurface for say cooking with hotplates or something similar
My questions are what type of wood would be best as it is outside (maybe a portuguese translation would also help) and where near to CVO can I get it and also hopefully cut to size.
I could always fall back into my default mode and get a professional (chippy maybe) to do it for me
Cheers

Tile cement is pretty good at sticking to most surfaces (even shiny tiles), but not great on wood. Also the wood expands and contracts ith hunidity and temperature, which is not good for keeping the tiles fixed..
If you really want tiles, then, you could use any cheap wood, and then cover nail plaster board to the wood before tiling. Better still (quicker, and probalby nit much more expensive) go to a stone/granite supplier and order a shelf cust to size in stone/granite. For the size you want, should be a bout 60/70 euros. We have used the obe near the fatacil (opposite the vets and faxtacil parking area).
