Think it means June 25th !!!......expect Intermarche will feel a draft, not too sure that Aldi nor Pingo will!Portugal Resident Aplonia is opening this Thursday July 25th.
Re: Apolonia opens tomorrow (probably)
This morning Intermarche was as busy as ever. Taxi drivers with Apolonia slogans on the side delivering holidaymakers to Intermarche as usual.
The Sushi bar at Intermarche opened last Thursday and looks very professional and quite busy.

We visited Apolonia today and must say it is very impressive. Spacious, modern and very well stocked especially for Homesick Brits. Loads of checkouts all manned and excellent free trolleys plus a cafe. The bakery, fish and meat sections all look excellent especially the meat which looked top quality. The one fault for me was the prices - it's very expensive and if you are not fussy you will save a fortune by going next door to Aldi. Aldi did it for us especially with one of my favourite white wines "Borba" at only 2-99 euros !!!!!!
I'm a bit bemused why they have spent so much on this new supermarket which isn't really needed but time will tell.

I'd be inclined to agree sportingjez, I cant fault intermarche at all. Fantastic selection in the place. Its still good to see new business opening though and it cant be any harm for people to have the choice. Hopefully both will continue to do well.sportingjez wrote:Intermarche for me, best combination of price v quality and choice.

Somewhat surprised at the attraction for Intermarche. It's not that long ago that they were the most expensive in town but then compared to Apolonia - they can probably maintain their position.
Sensibly priced businesses of the calibre of Pingo Doce, Pao de Acucar, Aldi and Lidl are sufficient for both residents and holidaymakers. The occasional bit of 'posh' is a treat

100% agree...very good fish, meat, deli and bakery counters with helpful staff and some good offers and prices...and, I believe, it's Portuguese owned, not German nor French.Sensibly priced businesses of the calibre of Pingo Doce
