Rentauto

Post by ceh »

A friend is thinking of hiring a car from Rentauto. (I always use YOR/Algarve Driver but she's trying to avoid the out of hours fees...). Does anyone have experience of the hire company?

Haven't used them but would suggest avoiding Interrent part of Europcar group. Still battling with them over my October 2013 hire.

I frequently use them, in fact have one of their cars on hire now. I book through Economy Car Hire which is reliable & competitive. You won't get a new car but it's easy. convenient & inexpensive,

Hi. I have traveled to CVO nine times over the last five years and every time I have booked with Economy Car Hire. By far the best, user friendly web site and most competitive prices. I also prefer to pay whilst in The UK at the time I make the booking as per their terms. ECH are an agency who pass on your booking to a car hire company based at Faro Airport. For the first few bookings I was informed after payment who my actual car provider was, Travel Rent, Luzcar etc, etc.... Then, after I became a "member" at Economy Car Hire I was presented with the option to actually chose my preferred car supplier via the web site. Personally I like Travel Rent or Drive 4 Fun. Both have been excellent and both have the smallest queues when collecting. My most recent booking earlier this month I opted for Drive 4 Fun. On collection I was presented with a lovely brand new Fiat Punto by a friendly lady.
All cars via ECH are collected at Car Park 4 at Faro Airport, a five minute walk from departures and all now offer the 20 euro option. You pay 20 euros to use the A22 tolls without having to visit the Post office. To date, the 20 euros has always covered my travelling whilst in the area and I have never been asked for more money. Don't get me wrong, I guess there is profit for the car hire companies based on those people who don't use anywhere near to 20 euros but it is peace of mind.
I have just booked again for March and took the option to chose my car provider and went with Drive 4 Fun once again. Happy driving!!

Ditto. Also agree with Lamby, except that some hire companies won't charge the 20 euros for tolls if you don't use them.

We rebooked with Algarve Driver, after looking at a number of sites although the lead in price looked attractive extras like paying the out of hours charge on arrival, toll charge albeit refundable etc.
There was also the credit we have built up which come in very usefull for our end of year trip.
After our friends experience with Drive4fun it is a question of dealing with the devil you know.

Did your friends not resolve their dispute with Drive4fun?

I am prepared to champion their cause if they have a legitimate dispute, but leaving the whiff of bad service in the air is unhelpful unless it's as you previously described & ECH have failed to adequately respond.

Did they get their money back?

Eventually yes after on one day making 6 phone calls to Bank and hire car company.
How would you have felt if you went to an ATM to discover that E2500 had been taken from your account and that you had no access to cash for christmas.??

I understand your anger & clearly this is unacceptable.

I'm interested in what, if any , reason was given for this "cock up"?

It's just so out of character for ECH & Drive4fun I'm amazed it happened.

Thanks for the replies - my friend has booked with rentauto for late March. I remain loyal to algarvedriver and benefitted from a load of accumulated credit at New Year
