Can anyone get Channel 5 anymore?

Post by guest2 »

Since the change to a north beam satellite transponder a few months ago has anyone been able to get channel 5, or 5 as it is now known? If so could you let us know what size dish you are using? Thanks.

You need a new card for your Digi-Box. :)

There were numerous posts about this last year (can't remember the heading) but the existing digi cards, the free to air ones obtained via the BBC ran out a while ago. The astra satallite has been changed to produce a smaller "footprint" which in the algarve needs a well aimed 120cm dish at least. However, you still need the new card which I think is no longer avaiable unless you go through sky and sign up for the basic package. It was free at the time and had I think 2 years on it.

……and this may refer to my seemingly unnecessary intrusion……but I’d like to point out that there’s a post gone missing here…..sometime yesterday (Sun) pm a guest posted something apparently rude enough for the moderators to hit the delete button……and my above tongue-in-cheek comment is supposed to be in defence…….(but still an accurate description)…..

As the person who made the original post I'll try to put it back on topic. This is nothing to do with cards but only signal strength. I get BBC1, BBC2, ITV, CHAN4 and in the morning only a breaking up channel 5. In the evening both BBC1 and Channel5 dissapear. I can solve the BBC1 problem by chosing BBC London or BBC Scotland or BBC NI instead of my default BBC West. These transmissions are on a different transponder and are stronger. Reception of them is perfect at anytime of the day or night.

That just leaves Channel5 which is too weak on a 1m dish. Hence the original question, is anyone getting it perfectly and iff so what size dish are they using. Thanks.
