Phoning Portugal from the UK for the cost of a local UK call

Apologies to any of you who already know about this, but thought it worth putting up for those who don’t!

You can telephone Portugal, and indeed most other European countries, from the UK for the cost of a local call. No prepayment or registration is required. Through a company called Telediscount (www.telediscount.co.uk) just dial 08452 449 449 and follow the instructions. The quality of the lines is not always that good, but hey it’s cheap!

When I first heard about this I was very sceptical but I’ve been using it for a number of months and it really does work.

I use a company called 18866 (www.18866.com). It costs 1p per minute to a landline in portugal and 15p per minute to a mobile phone. Been using it for 4 months and have saved a fortune. Also use it to call other countries, example I call a friend in Singapore at 1p per minute

Thanks for this Susie, I thought I was doing well with the tiscali simplydial 08448448444 prefix giving me 3.95p/m but 1p a minute is excellent.

Now the BIG question....Does anyone know how to dial the UK from Portugal at a cheap rate?

are these callback systems..if so they were banned in portugal a number of years ago

try EKIT.com for roving cheal calls from most countries. 10c a minute from US to UK and around 30 c a minute Port to UK

Top up is via credit card and you can use from pay phones or mobiles
