Nepresso Coffee Maker
Nepresso Coffee Maker
My brother in law wants to buy us a coffee maker for the villa and suggested a Nepresso coffee maker. That is a machine that has expensive capsules. Do you know if you can get the capsules in the CVO area?
I thought he just meant one for making double expresso/latte and so on with ground coffee which I would prefer, but what do you say to a gift? THANKS - Licy

You can get them in Pingo - there is a machine which lets you try them out. Alternatively you can always give it to the donkey sanctuary - which you will have to do eventually when they stop making the pods and another gimmick comes in - You are right the ground cofee system is defintiely the best! and you get to choose the flavours and strengths!
Re: Nepresso Coffee Maker
Thanks for that. Looking on line at home the pods are about 30p each, but equally I have seen them for about 80p each. My brother in law says far easier with the pods, although coffee not so good.maccasa wrote:You can get them in Pingo - there is a machine which lets you try them out. If he hasn't bought it you yet and he's suggesting an expensive job - try to push him to an automatic bean-to-cup job - by saying that will give you the option to have several types of coffee and select the strength. That way you get the best choice. Something like the Ariete 1329 or the Delonghi

Licy, when, or if, you let your spanking brand new home for rentals, keep that coffee machine locked -up somewhere safe as it will get damaged by the holidaymakers no matter how unintentional it may happen!

A bean to cup coffee machine in a rental villa is madness, the machines need proper cleaning or otherwise can become health hazzards very quickly!! The Nespresso system is a fantastic system and there is no chance Nespresso will ever stop making the pods - they are a food business and let DeLonghi etc make the machines under licence - they are only interested in selling the pods. There is a large choice of strengths and flavours of coffee but the pods are only available by mail order or Nespresso Boutiques and the nearest is Seville so a non starter for clients unless you supply the pods. You can buy cheap imitation pods in Jumbo but the coffee is s**t.
As you know I brought the first office bean to cup machines into the UK for the upmarket office environment made by Zanussi in 2003 and put Lavazza beans in them for Vodafone, Dyson, JP Morgan etc etc so I know a little about the machines and the market. Forget about any machine for the guests but let your BIL buy you a Pixie (Nespresso machine - you have had coffee from ours) lock it away when you leave the villa but buy it in Portugal (for the 24 month warranty) as Nespresso Portugal will not repair/look at a UK machine for less than €50 - I kow I asked. The join Nespresso Portugal, order capsules and they will deliver in 48 hours with a factura you pay at Multibanco or online- simples.

Exactly right
Great coffee and a great machine, join Nespresso online, order from a vast range of coffees, each one on line gives a full description of taste and intensity. I have gone from the basic machine to a krupps auto and love it. Delivery of coffee is 2 days and payment by multibanco after delivery. Order on the Portuguese site, in English it is cheaper than from uk.

Re: Nepresso Coffee Maker
having had a Gaggia for several years here in the UK, we bought a Nespresso Pixie in PT for use there. best buy we have made for a long while. eventually settled on a couple of coffee capsules we like and buy over here and take to PT in luggage. the cleaning is negligible compared to the gaggia and the coffee tastes good (at least as good as the fresh ground beans) - even the decaff is good (we like the intenso). it is also a lot quicker than the Gaggia. we liked it so much we bought a Citiz in UK (the combined coffee maker and milk heater).LICY wrote:My brother in law wants to buy us a coffee maker for the villa and suggested a Nepresso coffee maker. drawbacks - expensive capsules (relatively and if you call 30p a cup expensive) and only really available from Nespresso direct although the delivery is fantastic (usually next day even on the free delivery option). on the nespresso site i've never seen capsules at 80p so not sure where that was found. the water container needs filling at irritatingly regular intervals - i find this so irritating i'm having a water fountain installed next to the machine here in the UK to fill it rather than keep on using a jug. it is so easy to use that i do tend to drink a lot of coffee (more than i used to with the Gaggia). also, if you like hot milk/cappucino then whilst you can get reasonable offers on the machines the milk heaters are expensive (similar price to the machine) but work really well and again are easy to clean (non stick lining and easily removable whisk)
definitely not for use by people renting your property but for personal use they are brilliant

Jeff/LICY
I have the frother/milk heater and never use it, I add cold milk and microwave it for 50 seconds instead, so happy to swap it for a good bottle of Esporao!!! Jeff the capacity of the tank is small but it has been designed that way for good reason. Water left in a sealed container for a long time loses oxygen (freshness) and can harbour bacteria which can multiply, so annoying I agree but nonetheless a good idea is behind the principal.
