IVA increases

Post by sunman »

I just saw that Jaylay made reference to this on another post but I think this issue should have it's own thread as I fear it's going to have a widespread negative effect on home owners and business owners alike,

I hear that with the exception of golf and bullfighting (tourist attractions?) that IVA is being increased from 6% to either 13% or 23%,

talk is that basic IVA is going up to 25%; IVA on restaurants up to 23%; the Portugal News says that electricity is going up to 13% but I heard from a business owner that he's been told it's going up to 23% too

this is very serious I think, electricity is already very expensive here, and eating out in town is not exactly cheap before all this

Portugal has to do this as part of the ECB/IMF conditions for the bail out.
What ever the impact on us it is 10 times worse for the Portuguese who are on low incomes.
We have a choice to eat out or in, they do not as they canot afford the places aimed at the tourist market.
