Whats culchie..or is it colchie..mean ..or is it short for something?
Sons taken dictionary with him and my small ones gone missing!

It's from the Irish meaning to do with being rustic: ie: a country labourer

Guest too....I get your meaning....but have you used the correct wording? You do not need the word 'not'...if you mean that people of a cultural disposition are 'rarely' found in profusion in the Lincolnshire Wolds.
My neighbour 'Hyacinth Bucket' would be most upset..and you wouldn't be on her 'candle-lit' supper list..thats for sure

But not being of a 'cultured disposition'..I may have read it all wrong

Think Jason's dictionary description is very apt for me: A country labourer....I labour in the glorious wolds ....dirt under the fingernails job....and of a 'Horti'..cultural disposition....love it

Sometimes used in a derogatory fashion in Ireland I'm afraid, i.e. meaning someone who is a bit slow or even "thick".

CULCHIE, comes from the townland of coilte macha,but now refers to anybody who dosen,t come from dublin.
