TAX Declaration, how easy DIY?

Post by Michael@Tangier »

Help! How easy is it to fill in the Tax forms?
I already have a Fiscal Representative and would like to know:
A) Is it possible to DIY without using my Fiscal Rep?
B) How easy and where do I get the forms?
C) Can a layman fill in these forms?
I have very little, if anything, to declare and would like to DIY!
Many thanks in advance.
Michael.

You can go the finanças and request your access code "senha" for their website. Once you have this, it is all done online.... Could you do it yourself? Maybe many people do, I personally don't as ALL official paperwork does my head in!

Michael
did you get any joy on this?
I agree with you, how hard can it be? Just had my bill and the representation is 250 euro + IVA then the tax!

when I purchased last year my solicitor handed me an application to complete for fiscal repesentation. cost was €275+ vat. came home, googled and found a company charging €150+vat, so naturally ran with them. don't know how good or bad they are yet as we were exempt last year and havn't heard anything this year yet about the tax due. they did send out an email earlier this year basically stating that if we were renting we had to let them know of any income and they also supplied a list of claimable expenses, but as we don't rent didn't do anything. I gather that they have an extra charge for comleting the tax form but don't know this for certain.

does this mean lagoa camera have now sent out the first tax bills for this year?

on the basis of this I guess our lawyer charging us €150 plus IVA to pay our plot taxes are OK. seems crazy as our tax between the two of us are €164. I guess the local taxes go up when our villa has been built and indeed if we rent out the property. LICY

It is not the Câmara who send these demands but rather the tax department and - ye - they are coming out thick and fast and some are wrongly charged!

Would I have one of those if all we own now is a plot with a half built villa? Are the charges these posts talk about in relation to a full tax return - the equivalent of our UK tax return? LICY :?:

You will receive a municipal tax demand (IMI) in respect of an urban plot. Once house is built and "legalised" a form has to be submitted to the tax department who will revalue it and the IMI will of course increase.

I Assume my fiscal rep receives the invoice and informs me of the amount. as I only purchased in 2009 (not completed until 2010) this is the first year that I have to pay. I know what I paid for the apt (the deeds are split up into 3 - apt, pool, playground so different rates of purchase tax applied)however I don't know the % of this tax. are the wrong charges caused by an incorrect % or on an incorrect value of apt? there are 8 apartments in our block, all sold but at different prices. do the tax department refer to the actual price paid or do they assume everyone paid the price or do they have their own valuation? apologies for all the questions but it would be nice to know where I stand before the demand actually arrives.

licy: as your solicitor appears to have looked after your tax last year it would appear to me that he is willing to be your fiscal rep. my solicitor made it very clear that I would have to get a fiscal rep. think he stated at that time that if you were a permenent resident you didn't require a rep (or if you had purchased prior to 2003 or sometime like that) also if you are a resident you can be exempt for 6 years (or again something like that- very hard to take it all in when they are trying to explain everything to you ie inheritance laws, divorce laws, property taxes, purchase taxes, their fees, notary fees etc etc and you have only decided to purchase 2 hours earlier and are catching a flight in 3 hours time and are quite excited about whole thing- so apologies for being vague)

If you go on the home page of this site, scroll down to find the "financial section" and open that up at the bottom are some leaflets that might help explain the function of a fiscal rep

Joeysoap wish you luck. our lawyer never charged us before but he is now because he says he has to pay extra insurances a certain liabilities fall to him as our rep. Also we always paid the bill but collected it from the lawyer before. he says makes no difference who pays it as it is still the same charge. We know once the villa is completed our tax will go up. LICY

Lawyers now realise the responsibilities involved with fiscal rep and no longer will do it for free - why should they anyway? Most lawyers shie away from this service in fact as it is more of an accounts function than legal.
