Buying furniture home or Algarve
Buying furniture home or Algarve
I am seriously considering shipping out via Algarve Removals a sofa and other bits of furniture. When we looked in sofa shops about a year or so ago there seemed an abysmal choice plus they were very expensive. has anyone got recent experience of purchasing beds sofas etc in the Carvoeiro area and if so where and what would I expect to pay on average for a 3 seated plus a large sofa bed? DFS and the likes here seem to sell sofas from about 250 upwards albeit they may not be what I am looking for. have the flat screen TV's come down as they were so much more expensive. you could get a 37" TV for a few hundred although I do accept bang goes my guarantee. thoughts please.

Try Sofa VIP in lagoa for furniture....amazing choice and very good quality. And Radio Popular for LCD's DVD players etc... Both have sites online where you can see the selection & cost.

Hi LICY - a reasonable leather sofa will cost you €13-1500 (VIP in lagoa) a good double/king size bed and matress (from the uk place on N125 near lagos) was over €1000 last year. You will pay for the removal cost easily with what you save.

We bought our bedroom stuff online and had it shipped out by Direct Transport. We would have had the dining room/lounge stuff shipped out as well but the company we ordered from did a runner, so we bought in the Algarve. I'd second Sofa VIP, they have good choice and are really nice people. I'd say a sofa would be very expensive to ship out.
If you buy a TV on Amazon, chances are you can get free delivery to Portugal but the VAT will be 23%. When I compared pricing on a 32" TV, it worked out around €30 more for the same TV at Radio Popular, which I thought was worth it for the 2 years warranty and the right plug. We bought the Freesat box on Amazon.

Re: Buying furniture home or Algarve
Firstly I will check out sofa VIP at Logoa when we came out in May.
macassa you used AR. I sent you a PM recently. I think we are neighbors, well that is to say our villa may be finished sometime in my lifetime. We are at plot 8.
I asked AR for an idea on shipping the beds and sofas and it is £650 incl VAT so that's the sort of figure I need to save.
I didn't know I could order on Amazon and get delivery in the Algarve.
in relation to a TV I have no problem paying an extra £30 or so because it is worth it.
is there anything else I would be wise to look at shipping out? I will weigh up the prices, tax, euro and shipping.
what about the garden sofa's for example - where would buy the woven type that most people have now?

Re: Buying furniture home or Algarve
When I was out in February IZZY had the woven garden furniture and I think I saw it at a few other places. Prices seemed Ok, but then was not really looking at them. Go to http://www.izi.pt and they have a good on-line catalogue with prices. Leroy Merlins usually have good selection.
Conforama http://www.conforama.pt have on-line catalogue for furniture
The sofavip site is no good for prices. The range we were looking at is modular with different fabrics, so prices vary. Good reductions at sale times.

Re: Buying furniture home or Algarve
Thanks I will check out those websites. I just tried Worten but could only locate a sample type brochure which had about 4 TV's. 40" was about twice the price. Radio Poplar was cheaper on promotion cheapest being 500.

Where did you see that Licy?
Re: Buying furniture home or Algarve
Izi website under rattan. There were 2 pictures with info about it. Rightly or wrongly from the picture it looked like 4 pieces but then I don't read the language. You shill see the link on an earlier message.
Re: Buying furniture home or Algarve
We decided to buy sofas and beds / bedding & Sky digi boxes on line and ship via Algarve Removals. Expecting delivery W/C 21st March so can advise on how service works after that date. Searching for furniture at Conforama, Moviflor, Sofa VIP. Divani, etc I think you can buy better quality at lower cost in UK. TV & audio is different because the price differential doesn't justify the loss of warranty so buy at Box, Radio Popular, Worten etc.LICY wrote:I am seriously considering shipping out via Algarve Removals a sofa and other bits of furniture. Soft furnishings, curtains, cushions, bedspreads etc are reasonably priced and good quality here especially at the likes of Leroy Merlin, AKI, Izi etc. as is lighting and kitchen & bathroom fittings. Bring your own computer kit from UK as you'll want UK software and it's cheaper in UK.
Good luck with the move
Re: Buying furniture home or Algarve
Regarding soft furnishings. The main problem I have found in Algarve is curtains. Most seem to be single panels about 2.5m length. I have always bought in Uk and taken/sent out from UK as I can get ready made at right size and good price. I now need a set replacing. Does any one know of anywhere selling ready made in different sizes?
Re: Buying furniture home or Algarve
Would be very Interested in hearing from you after 21 March. I find it difficult to work out how to calculate how many sq cubic meters when working on the basis of sofas and beds. have you any tips? In relation to TV's have checked on line for Sorten, but it does not appear to have a full range so I guess we will have to look in the shop. They appear to be much more expensive than here. It was a better price at Radio Poplar with the cheapest 40" being €499. Still have to consider beds etc. I reckon our next trip will be pretty busy checking out furniture etc. good luck with the move. I take you are relocating permanently.
Sam in relation to curtains my cousin has a villa and wanted fitted curtains. they always have an eye for a bargain but ended up getting them in Debenhams to take over to Almancil.
