Carvoeiro Sol, Harris Tours, Laranja, etc - all great!!

Post by Guest »

Just come back from lovely Carvoeiro and missing it already! Yes, I am still calling Carvoeiro lovely even though the weather tried to give us 4 seasons in one week!! I'm getting worried - after a rainfree 16 years of visiting the Algarve (last 6 in Carvoeiro) we've had rain last Nov and also now!!

Carvoeiro Sol - you were all great as always! We had the best room in the hotel (but I'm not telling anybody which one!) and was very grateful to sunbathe in privacy from our room! Those of you who haven't been there - go! Out of season is the best - cheaper!! Food is good. Company good. Happy hour good! Position - unrivalled! Get cheap flights (like us) and it's even better! You can watch the world go by from your balcony! Sorry we were the last to breakfast every day!

Harris Tours - 20 out of 10!! Fiona, you were a great ambassador and good company on route. Your tours looked brilliant, and we would have liked to take part - another time eh? Those of you looking for airport transfers - try them - totally reliable and cheaper than the taxis!

Laranja - After being the first person to email them from this website and saying we would go and have a recci, would you believe we met Sarah and Danny in the jailhouse?! Ok - some of you would not be surprised they were in the Jailhouse (celebrating Sarah's b'day)!! By the way - how's your head you two??! Their villa is lovely and the rooms available are absolutely ideal for a group of 6 couples, 6 singles, 12 singles - whatever! Even a roof terrace! We went to see it the following morning as they were flying to the UK that day. There was even a lovely roast dinner cooked by Ola (their chef and friend) for them before they went! I would definitely recommend it - good central location just up from the Jailhouse - and that is an advantage! (Anyone who's not been to the jailhouse - go!) Laranja can do any package to suit you (inc airport transfers), has s/pool, large grounds, outside bar. tennis courts and loads of potential!! oh - and two nice hosts!

Must also mention Jota Lita restaurant, good food and great company! Casa Algarvia restaurant - can report that meals are as good as always! Their house dessert is something to die for! They won't give you the recipe though! Grand cafe and O Patio were as welcome as ever to watch the sea and the world go by! Also don't miss the cafes where the Portuguese go! In the evening you must visit the Jailhouse! Live music, good hosts who make you to feel very welcome! This must buzz as the season goes on!

And I cannot leave without mentioning the ice-cream and pancake shop! And as it's dead opposite the Sol - couldn't be better! It also hosts, for those who don't know, the webcam! A wonderful place to visit and a real heart of the community! Which reminds me - I must thank Steen the webmaster for setting up this lovely site so that we can still have a taste of Carvoeiro from afar!

As I've now got writers cramp, and you've all fallen asleep reading this, I'll wish Carvoeiro a fond farewell and au revoir!

Jo
PS: Have I written what you all told me too?!

I was really happy to see Jo's post, totally relevant and the sort of thing that people looking to visit Carvoeiro like to know. After the some of the topics that have been covered over the last couple of weeks I was beginning to question why I visit the site each day but this was just perfect - wholly owned as her opinion but took you back there for those us who visit and gave ideas to those that are perhaps due to visit for the first time.

Well done Jo, totally in what I believe is the spirit of this forum :)

So pleased I've cheered you all up! And to our guest who thinks I was paid, I'll have to bear that in mind next time!!

Seriously - all my writings are my own! We come to Carvoeiro as much as we can (cheap flights allowing!) and consider it our second home. The first time I saw this site was when we had booked a good late deal and I was looking for info. Couldn't believe it when I saw the village had it's own website! It made our first visit so good as we felt we knew the place before we arrived. Also we could look for the favourite restaurants/bars etc. I remember one person replied to my postings on the site to say we would fall in love with the place, and that's exactly what we did! We have over the years brought friends with us who feel the same! One day - after youngest child has come through her drama training in London and we won't (hopefully !) still be poor - we hope to buy accomodation!!

Maddie - I agree! I will endeavour to keep this site what it should be!

Still missing Carvoeiro desperately!!!

Dear Guest (how about a name?!)

I don't think anyone makes a place a rose garden these days! The reality is we all have to think a bit! I'm sorry about your robberies, it's awful when it happens to you, especially if you have been very careful about belongings, money etc while holidaying.

I'm also not afraid to say if there were problems! This helps others and hopefully makes Carvoeiro a safer place and maybe expose those who wish to cause a few problems.

Just so you know I am speaking the truth - have a look at my posting about water bombs + eggs!!
