If you walk along Rua Do Barranco (Barranco means ravine;precipice;gully;ditch), and out of town always on the right side you will see a dip, as you get further along the dip (which is now covered with grass) becomes deeper.Years ago (long before I was here!) there was running water which eventually ran into the sea. The stream (I'm not sure how big it was) comes all the way from Lagoa, but runs down large drains now. It is said that you can go from Poço Partido along the drains right into Carvoeiro, I personally haven't tried it!!

The old river bed
When we had the big floods of 1988, the torrent of water ran from Lagoa down to Carvoeiro along its original river course, the the water ran down the left side of the road from Lagoa until it reached the turn for Pospertite
( sorry about the spelling on this, I know its not right),it then suddenly crossed the road to the right and demolished the wall and ran all the way into the town down the road by the Oasis and finished up in the square,it was really awesome to see. Nature never forgets.
I used to have very old photos of the bridge when I lived there, Smilers was the fishermans cottage come storage place.

Im finding this most interesting Redscouser!
Have you lived there for long time? I maybe you dont live there now?
Do you still have any old photos that we could see on here?
I have a book called 'Algarve' by David Wright and Patrick Swift.. that has some really good old photos of how things used to be.
Im looking at them now..and wondering if I could get them on here..not sure how though..unless I send them to Gambrinus!
This old river course from Lagoa to CVO?
Tell me...Im wondering..you know the 125 going past the bombeiros at Lagoa? Theres a very wide 'ditch' along there 'righthand side' ..would that be anything to do with the original river/stream?
I expect you know of the book Ive mentioned..it makes for very interesting reading!
If anyones interested in the old photos in the book maybe someone would advise me how to put them on please?..Thanks....Ellie
P.S. I find it very interesting to see places like CVO/ Lagoa etc as they used to be!
