Car Hire comparison

I am coming to CVO in November and after searching for a car hire deal, I have opted for Economy Car Hire using Drive4Fun, they have a 2 door Fiesta for £69.50 for a week and this includes the 'all in' insurance (which doesn't cover tyres or windscreens - that would be an extra extra!). When I look at Yor Car, they want £103 for a Fiesta (group B) but even for a group A it is £95.71.

I have previously tried to get Yor Car to price match but they never even bothered to reply!

I would like to use Yor Car as they get a good reputation on this site (although I have read about them being a bit slow at Faro recently) but there is no comparison with these rates!

Are you looking at the right prices for YOR as what you are quoting doesn't match their web site? November is low season so a group A car should be 67 euros for a week.

Sandlake, do look at the algarvedriver site which is our direct access to YOR. If you can get a better like deal, let Steen know and he might be able to do something. Booking through algarvedriver helps keep this site going.

The quote I have with ECH is for a Fiesta with SuperCDW which on the algarvedriver site (assuming a Fiesta is a Group A) is (67+42) 109 euros for a week, my quote with ECH is for £69.50.

As I say I would like to use a sponsor of this site but there is just too much of a difference

The last time we hired a car it was from the hotel near the beach.....but I also know that Steen/Algarve driver will match any price!

I would always go for the cover for punctures. Had two so far this year, lots of holes in the road.

I have booked zitautos for 10 days next month 185 euros with full insurance, best deal we could find and you deliver the car to the car park not to one of these places they mini bus you into the airport.

Hi. For the last four or five years I have used Car Jet. Travelling to Menorca mainly and Portugal this year. For TWO WEEKS over Easter this year they charged 193.14 Euros with a pick up at Faro Airport. From memory I think Algarve Drive were 280 (ish) Euros. I am travelling to CVO in May 2011, however, Car Jet are not taking bookings that far in advance yet. Never had a problem with Car Jet and this year the car provider was Sixth just outside arrivals at Faro.

On topic-ish.

We had decided that we would need an estate for our recent visit (I think I should probably use the old-fashioned word stationwagon, which is now fashionable again...) and that I might have trouble locating one, being relatively last minute. I didn't really have a lot of trouble, but going with one of the majors was going to cost £600, or thereabouts. Against my better judgement, I ended up on the Argus car hire website and picked what was advertised as a 307 SW for less than €400 for 12 days. I found out after booking that the local company was Travel Rent. To be honest, I had no expectations that the car was going to be anything other than an older car and probably the ubiquitous Megane.

Upon arrival, I found the Travel Rent "office" in car park four and despite the queue, had the keys within 10 minutes. The car (obviously) was not a new 307 SW, but a three year old Opel Astra CDT with 36k on the clock. I wasn't really bothered, but they might have actually had the car valeted before giving us the keys. The windows were clean, but that was about it. Anyway, it was much cheaper than the majors and did it's job.

The only problem that arose was on the second day, a large blister on the front nearside (in Portugal) tyre. I think it was there when I picked the car up, but was too busy checking the bodywork in a tight parking space to notice the tyres. Given that tyres were not covered by the insurance, I was fearing the worst about being charged. I would have probably booked elsewhere if I had known this, as all previous hires have included tyres and glass in the insurance. Back at the airport, a chap called George drove us to a local tyre replacement dealer on the airport road and left us there to get a new tyre. The chap didn't have a new tyre, but fitted a part-worn for the grand total of €25 - result! A new tyre would have been out of place on the car anyway!

I think so long as you are well insured and don't have high expectations, some of the smaller firms are fine. Unless you know differently...
