rental agreement
A friend and I are in the process of purchasing a villa and have been told by the selling agent that the current owner has already agreed a 7 month agreement with a rental company and tried to imply this was set in stone. We are waiting a callback from our solicitor but surely whatever agreement was in place is irelevant once we take ownership and it is up to us what we do with our property? Surely any agreement cancellation penalty is down to the current owner.

Your right, it's their problem but find out who the agent is and try a "crafty" phone call to them. I assume any rental income will go to you. It may just be that the agent has already let part of the summer and will need to re offer to their clients another villa but it's not a problem for you and the villa should come without any ongoing agreements. Not offshore is it! Mike
