I wouldn't think so unless you have a source of income from Portugal.

Unfortunately as a resident you have to declare your worldwide income to the IRS and apply for relief from two lots of tax under the Double Taxation Relief treaty between Portugal and the UK. If your pension like mine is a Government pension it has to be taxed at source in the UK but if it is a private pension you could apply to HMRC to have it paid gross and account for tax in Portugal. To get this you have to prove that the income has been included in a Portuguese tax return (which is now by means of an online certificate) but you may have to put in a return here before you can get agreement for the future. I am no expert so it would be best to ask HMRC.

As you have been a resident for more than half of the 2009 calendar year you are tax resident in Portugal for that year but equally not tax resident in the UK for 2009/10.

Where can I get reliable advice on tax matters for when I live in Portugal?

We will be moving permanently to Carvoeiro in 2010 but I will continue to work. My work and income is derived from the USA, The UK and some European countries. I have no desire to fall foul of the tax authorities and need to get myself properly advised ahead of the move.

All advice/guidance/help will be very much appreciated.
