Builder recommendations please

Hi, I know it has been asked before but wondered if anyone could recommend a very good builder in the area who has done a very good job for you. I would rather have someone who is recommended by work already done than just word of mouth as this is a major project we are looking at.

We had our villa completed in Mid July and have been more than satisfied with our builder - he started end dec and it was finished early July, with so many extras that he never charged us for!. I would not hesitate to recommend him to anyone.

Thanks you for the name and number I will get him to quote us for the work needed, it isn't new build or renovation as such, more replacing old roofs, terracing and wall work.

I know of a Portuguese builder who's work is excellent AND he's reliable. He comes when he says and works very hard, his speaks English, although not perfect but adequate.
We paid him 75 Euros a day (Cash) and bought all the materials etc. which wasn't an issue as most builders merchants deliver to site.

For the sort of work you are looking at (walls, terrace etc) this guy would be perfect!

I know it sounds cynical, and may be unfair, but most local builders in Carvoeiro area, see you are a Brit....think of a number, double it and add a nought

A friend of mine actually found it cheaper to fly a builder out from the UK, and because he was quicker, and charged a reasonable price, actually worked out cheaper.

My experience seems to be that even the smallest job seems to cost 2000 euros

We have had one quote (which nearly floored me!) and are waiting for the next 2 quotes. All are local builders to us, (Lagoa, Guia) but I do agree with Bruce, as soon as they know you are not a local the price just seems to go through the roof..... daft really as word of mouth must be a great advertisement for a good builder.

Oh dear globetrotter, that sounds ominous!!

we have now had other quotes for the work we would like to do and the first quote is now looking quite good..... Need to look again and see where we can cut back a little...
