Easyjet and API

Post by Mike,Chislehurst »

Just booked Faro for September and they are now requiring advanced passport information, how long has that been going on?

We are flying in on Saturday 5th Sept for 11 nights with easyjet from Bristol. I booked flights last November, but didn't have to and i haven't received an email from ejet either. I guess i should check our booking using the ejet booking ref number. I know Spain have required these details in advance for a couple of years, but wasn't aware portugal had adapted these rules as well.

My daughter is due to fly out to Faro on Monday and only found out yesterday that she had to supply this information before she could fly.

We have bookings in September to Portugal and France both made some time ago and have not received any notification of changes. However I have checked on the Easyjet site and you do have to provide API. or"you will not be permitted to fly"

Have also just looked at Easyjet site and could not see any reference to API being necessary for Portugal, could not find a section to register this info and certainly have not received any notification from them.

Where ? How etc ?

It pops up after you have booked a flight as I did yesterday. Nothing on website to explain why, but I guess they have followed Spain within the EEC. One would guess that Easyjet will notify nearer the date of departure their online booking clients and anyone booking now needs to input it or update later any new bookings. As it happens, my passport is in for renewal. But you can update the booking online.

Hi, I used the Monarch online check-in last month & had to supply API. Don't remember having to do that previously.

It is my understanding that this is at the behest of the U.K. authorities and not the Portuguese in a crackdown on illegal immigrants and to reduce staff and speed up the flow through through immigration.
To back this up, my wife flew one way inbound to Faro on Tuesday with no API requirement - but for our return trip next week it is required.

If you have already booked log in and go to your bookings. There is a warning telling you to enter your info. It also remembers this for future bookings so all you need do is click once to enter the same information in future

Having booked Monarch Flights for September I decided to check their website for info on API. It states it is only required for Spain, nowhere is it stating Portugal. If you are booking in online its understandable that you are required to provide this info, as you need pasenger & passport info before a boarding card will be issued.Jet2 are the same, not required for Portugal if you check in at the airport, but required if you book in online.

Just had a look on the Easyjet site and found this.....no mention of Portugal
As a result of new legislation from the EU, all passengers travelling from the UK, Switzerland and Morocco to Spain and since the 4th of February 2009 those travelling from/to the UK to/from Cyprus, France, Germany, Gibraltar, Italy, Malta, Netherlands and Turkey are required to provide Additional Passenger Information (API).

Al Garb is correct. I booked in June with Easyjet for flights this coming Sunday. I went to 'manage booking' , then 'view'. This is where it requests the API. It akso warns that without this, you will not be allowed to fly.

Thank you so much for posting this. This was the fisrt I knew about it. We are flying next month with Easyjet and I had booked back in February. I don't usually log back in to see my booking so would have gone to the airport without providing this passport info. Are they stopping people from flying? Once you log back in to your booking there is a big warning notice. I could see nothing on their website before logging in to my booking though.

Thanks.

Thanks Mike for informing us of this. We have booked four more trips to Faro with Easyjet this year and didn't know anything about it. I thought they may have e-mailed their travellers. As Al Garb said once you enter your details they are saved for future flights.
