Sky are replacing all existing Sky cards so be carefull you do not pay for something that will only have limited use.

It is far safer to apply for another card from Sky in the UK giving a genuine UK address (preferably one that you have access to) and then bring it out to Portugal. Sky are going to replace cards over the next few months so any other method might have a short life span.

Our Sky+ HD box has just been updated to the new epg. Has anyone yet had a Portuguese Sky box updated, or will they remain on the old epg?

Does the update have to be done with your UK phone line attached ?

If so then of course there is no way a Portuguese Box could be updated, but if you bring your NEW validated card with you this should still work ??

I think it's updated via the phone - but I'm not certain. Would a new updated card from the UK work in an un-updated Sky box?

Sky box software is updated via the satellite signal. Many boxes are not connected to the phone line . Subscription viewing cards are box specific and will not work in another box. If you are using a subscription card you will have to get this replaced or eventually you will lose your programmes and revert to the free to air channels when Sky switch off the old cards.

How can I put a satellite radio in my car without there being static? I can only use the built-in FM Transmitter in the satellite receiver because I don't want to invest more money. Also, I have tried all the recommended stations. I live near NYC and own a 2005 Honda Civic

Hi Bondi - are you seriously going to sit indoors while on holiday in the Algarve and watch cricket?? :o

My sky card will not allow sports or film channels when I'm in Portugal so if I really want to watch some live sport I go to a local bar where I can sit in pleasant company and enjoy a beer. A lot of bars now have a TV outside so that you can also still enjoy the sun. Failing that I can get Sky Sports News and I might watch that to just catch up on the latest info.

The easiset way is to take your entire sky box and card and plug it in - it seems that all the paid channels (i.e. sport) will work as will sky plus

We have received our NEW sky cards and registered it in our UK box.

Our OLD card also worked in our PT box ( Not Sky ) so no problems watching SKY when we came out.

We have been told that as part of their update the new cards will NOT work other than in the SKY BOX originally used to register the card.

Is this true ?

If so its a pain for those of us who bring cards with us when we come out to stay.

We will still get BBC, ITV etc as we have a " Dark Box "so its an inconvenience not a major problem but for those with SKY boxes will this mean NO signal ??.

EMM - while answering a question on the General board about carrying on board digi boxes it occurred to me that maybe my new Sky card works in PT because I am using my old English Sky box which I took out there. Whether new cards work on boxes bought in PT is another question. :(
