Post by gray3287 »

Given the ever increasing prices at the intermarche does anyone know of a good quality market that sells local produce etc? my wife and I are spending a wk in our villa 16 april, and need to do the shopping on a budget.

If you have a car then you cannot beat the indoor municipal market in Portimao. Not easy to find but it's next to the cemetary and fire station. Lots of seafood and fruit and veg stalls plus a section for small holders selling direct.

A great experience, produce that you will not get fresher anywhere and good prices.

It's a hidden gem that is everybit as good as Loule but is just up the road.

The market in Carvoeiro is nothing in comparison.

If you have a car, take a trip to LAGOS...
Every Saturday behind the BUS STATION is a farmers market, some quite big stalls, others with a 108 year old bloke in a cap selling 5 carrots!

Then on the main AVENIDA is the new market hall... fish, fish & more fish on ground floor, fruit & veg, herbs, etc, on 1st floor.

Happy shopping :D

for a day trip out take a cool bag and do the market in alhoa and have a fab fishy lunch with the locals across the road from the market in the numerous fish restuarants, Then a lovely walk along the walkway along behind the market. all the seats tell the story of alhoa and there is a huge bird sanctuary along there.
