Elliotts – Yes I know but everyone else in my party wanted to go.

Good food, good service although the restaurant wasn’t that busy, but unfortunately too expensive for what we had. Unlike last year, no free port after meal. We didn’t go back.

Stone Streak

Good food and service. The meal was more expensive than Elliotts, but not worth the money. We didn’t go back.

A Fonte

The food was great and portions huge but the service was very slow. Prices are very good and we ate there twice. Try the mixed kebab or prawn kebab but don’t fill up with bread beforehand. If you have young kids you will need to keep them occupied for a while.

Ma Ja’s

A nice restaurant put in a poor location. Mark & Jan have to work hard to get their custom due to not having the passing trade. Great food, great service and very reasonably priced. We ate their twice and there would have been a third time if they were not fully booked. I recommend you call the day before to reserve your table.

Trattoria Oliveira

Great pizzas, decent service and reasonably priced. We ate at the restaurant once and had a takeaway. It is advisable to book. Not full every night but it will be the night you decide to go.

O’Escondidinho

Well, what can I say, this place is brilliant. We ate there a couple of times last year and were not disappointed this year. It has a great atmosphere with great basic honest food. If you are on a tight budget and have kids you will not be disappointed with the prices. If the forum is trying to keep this place a secret, too late the secret is out because it was packed every night. We ate there about five times because it was such good value. Joao and Carlos (I think that is how they spell their names) always made us very welcome as did the team in the kitchen. Be prepared to help out i.e. clear your table, get your own drinks etc (it’s all part of the fun) because Joao serves the whole restaurant himself and works like a Trojan but cannot always be there when you need him.

Have you or anyone tried O’Escondidinho at lunchtime when they serve the lunch set menu written on the board outside, (meat or fish and veg and boiled pots)and how much does that cost in comparison to the evening set meal of whatever with chips and of course not forgetting the fried egg on top.

Sorry, I didn't go at lunchtime but it was always busy mainly with local workmen. I would assume that the prices were slightly cheaper than night time but don't really know.

This is the place we refer to as the ''Chicken house'' as we used to eat up there with the ex-pats on a Thursday night, it is located in the back of Quinta do Paraiso, think its about 6 euros for all you can eat and drink. very basic, but good fun.

I sent yo a PM but doesn't look like you got it so here is the same info.

Are you familiar with QDP? If so, carry on past the reception area going away from the town. Go past the small supermarket and take a left. Carry on up the hill. Once you get to the top of the hill take another left and about 200 yards along the road on the left hand side you will find O' Escondidinho.

Another way is if you know where O'Branco is. Carry on about 1/4 mile past that towards town and there is a fork in the road, you should take the left fork and O'Escondidinho is about 100 yards in front of you.

I think it is a little more now at night time, probably about 9 euros. There was six of us eating and drinking as much as we wanted for around 54 euros, excellent value.

Thinking of visiting in October and if so I will be staying at the QDP side of CVO. Is the "Ritz! still open? In July 2008 Joao told me his father was thinking of selling up.

Yep, it is still open and doing a great trade, we ate there last month and friends ate there last week, good honest food and wine at a sensible price..... brilliant
