FIREWOOD

All sorts of things coming to mind as the finishing date approaches.

Where can we get fire wood.

Initally all we will need is a boot full to get us through christmas.

But after that a decent load.

Mind you if the builder does nt clean the site we will have plenty of old wood to burn.

Used to drive to the 'wilderness' at Rocha Brava and fill bags with wood & twigs there (gratis) or buy bags in the supermarket there.
Is the fella still operating along the road into Carvoeiro? On lefthand side coming from Lagoa? But found him bit expensive.

There is a huge firewood place that is really reasonable on the road that goes through Guia and heads south. It is less that a kilometre from the "s" turn.

On the road to Rocha Brava on the left there's a place run by João Carlos Granadeiro I think his phone number is on a sign there. We buy our wood from him, never a complaint yet

My neighbours dont seem to have problem getting logs.....they nick mine!! Bastards!

Bruce thats one of my concerns, thought about buying one of those lock up boxes to keep wood in. ( or would that go as well )

I put mine in my gas bottle store last year, they broke in an took them, so I dont think a lock up box will do it.

Im coming over in November, so Ill just buy enough for my needs. They will cost more, pro-rata.....but it will still be cheaper than buying a load, and having them stolen.

We have one of those plastic green boxes for the extra logs but guess what it was broken into but nothing taken [we noticed this in September]. We get our logs from a man just outside of Silves you can see the place from the road. Take the road to your right as you come over the bridge in Silves [takes you to CVO etc] through the tunnell up to the roundabout then come back on yourself through the tunnell and take the road to the right follow this and you will cross the railroad and the place is on your left. He weighs how many logs you want and works out the cost which is not to bad can't remember exactly how much.
Sorry if directions are a bit muddly but I am not the driver just the passenger, I expect someone else on this site will know where I mean and can give better directions.

I'm really glad I read these posts last week when I was in CVO as I was about to buy a load of wood in anticipation of the next visit when it will be colder. It would have been really bad news to have had it stolen so thanks for the advice.

Canada have you used the firewood place on the road out of Guia towards Gale beach? This is where we are thinking of ordering from as it's closer to us now than Carvoeiro. We pass it on the way to the beach & it is massive.

Hi the one you are talking about is Alvaro Bitoque his number is 289591323 his wood is always dry as he covers it with plastic even though its a massive pile of wood. Also he does mixed wood a bit cheaper than the cork oak which is really hard and lasts a long time, it also burns with hardly any smoke. I have used him for seven winters buying three tonnes per year. Price for one tonne last year was 135 euros He also does stone, top soil, pine bark. Yes they do speak english !

Update for those that are interested, arranged my firewood today 140 euros per tonne delivered, this is for the cork oak. ( hard wood )
