Easyjet baggage charges
Easyjet baggage charges
EJ has made clearer on its website its new charges for ALL checked in baggage.
Each passenger is permitted:
- one standard piece of hand baggage to maximum dimensions of 55x40x20cm, and
- Up to 8 pieces of checked-in hold baggage (each bag charged at £2 online or £5 at the airport) to a maximum combined weight of 20kg. A fee per kilo for excess weight is charged at the airport prior to departure
Each passenger is allowed a maximum combined hold baggage weight of 50kg including any sports equipment, subject to available space. The maximum weight for any single piece of baggage is 32kg. Freight or cargo items cannot be accepted as passenger baggage.
Infants who share your seat do not have a baggage allowance.
For further details check their site http://www.easyjet.com/EN/Planning/baggage.html
So if you normally just travel with hand baggage but decide to check in a bag at the last moment (perhaps to bring back some wine) then that bag will now cost £5.

Tom, I think (but I'm not 100% sure) that if you booked before the introduction of these charges, then the conditions prevailing at the time of booking still hold (excuse the pun
).
Like you, we have reservations (made ages ago) for Sept, and I have printed out my "confirmation of booking" which is effectively a contract, and it states one free bag per person. Since we usually only have hand baggage, I will probably not get to test my theory though

If you go to view an existing booking via manage bookings then you will see the following clarification:
Baggage policy. easyJet’s hold bag policy changes on October 1, 2007. If your flights fall under different hold baggage policies, the fee charged reflects fees applicable at the time of travel for each sector.
Flight(s) before October 1: Each Passenger on this booking may only check in a total of 1 bag free of charge. If you need to take more, please add the relevant charges to your booking (£5.00 per bag when pre-paid online; £10.00 per bag at the airport). Purchasing additional bags does not increase your weight allowance.
Flight(s) after October 1: Each hold bag is charged at £2.00 per bag when pre-paid online; £5.00 per bag at the airport. Purchasing additional bags does not increase your weight allowance. Each passenger is entitled to carry 20 kg of hold baggage spread over a maximum of 8 hold bags. Excess weight fees will be payable at the airport if the total weight exceeds 20 kg.

Thank you e-richard and others.
We are coming out on the 29th having booked on the 22nd June and having checked my booking confirmation that I printed out on the same day it clearly states ' One hold bag per passenger only'.
So it looks as though we should not be charged the extra. Normally I only take hand baggage but as we are coming out for a month we will be needing one small suitcase this time.
Thanks for all your very useful comments.

Too right Trisha. Now I have to remember to uncheck baggage and uncheck single trip insurance.Trisha G wrote:If you are travelling with Hand luggage only, watch out when you are booking that you REMOVE the baggage charge. They have it setup to include a hold bag for each passenger travelling in your party, you can remove it but I bet there will be some people that miss this!!!!
Just when I was about to compliment EasyJet on showing prices including taxes, they come along and undo all that goodwill.
