CVO - Jerez

Later this year I need to drive from Carvoeiro to Jerez. It seems the most starightforward route is to kep to the motorways Cvo - Seville ringroad and then Seville - Jerez. However the coast road looks to be the more direct route and probably more interesting. Has anyone made the trip to Jerez via the coast road?
