ATM or Traveller's Cheques?

I will be coming to Carvoeiro in 2 weeks time and want to know the best method of getting cash. In recent holidays I've started using the ATM, but how easy is this, i.e. is there only 1 machine? If I bring cheques, should I get Euro or Sterling? Are there plenty of places to cash them? Thanks for any advice.

I always use the ATMs not travellers cheques, there are 4 machines in the village that I can think of, plus one at intermarche.

I understand that travellers cheques are expensive to cash in the banks now.

Just make sure you don't leave yourself short of cash over a weekend as the machines sometimes run out on a Sunday.

I have a Switch card (Maestro). Do the ATM's in Cvo accept this card and is there a charge levied for each withdrawal?

Yes they do - there is a charge, check with your bank how much. I think mine charges a fixed fee of £1 then a percentage of the amount taken out - it doesn't work out expensive, but take out the maximum allowed each time.

I dont know what a Switch Card is, but I think youll find a debit card is better than a credit card.

Switch is a debit card - different banks call them different names.
