Heard something on BBC24 news last night of bad fires close to Porto? and the Spanish border..and of fatalities.
H also heard that the authorities are looking for suspects who are deliberately torching the land....

Just a little footnote here..and sorry its not to do with Algarve. Here in Lincolnshire the authorities are having trouble recruiting part-time firemen, so Fire Stations are being closed for longer periods.
However, we hear they are looking to the Polish and South African communities here and hoping for recruits from those sectors.
