Limited access to Carvoeiro centre

Just got back from a few days in Carvoeiro. I thought the square and immediate surrounding roads were much smarter and certainly pedestrian friendly. Yes its different and you cannot use all the roads both directions and there is now less car parking, but it didn't spoil our enjoyment. I'm all for improving the infrustructure, such as the roads and pavements and it would also be nice for the peeling white render to have a lick of paint here and there. What is it with European countries and graffiti and doggy doo doos? Yvette

More Parking restrictions.

The GNR were out is force this morning on the " IN /OUT " Farol.

Cars were not being allowed to drive into town but once again diverted past the market.

A thick continuous yellow line preventing parking now stretches from the end of the taxi rank up hill to the roundup.
There is a small box permitting parking outside of the Roundup and that is it.
There were two GNR ticket book in hand patrolling the in/out road.

The guy who stands outside of the Roundup at night was watching all this activity with a forelorn look on his face.

When we were in town the other night this new NO parking area was packed with cars.

The problem is that because cars are parking in the delivery zones traffic is at a standstill until the delivery vehicle completes its task.

i have to agree, the graffitti vandalism is an outrage. I was in Faro last week and there was a beautuful marble square where the floor fountains spring up.The grafitti sprayed all over the marble wants to make you cry. When you drive on the dual carriageway into Faro the pedestrian bridges are plastered with graffiti. London is no exception but a beautiful city and indeed countryside that is Portugal should not suffer such visual vandalism,

I am not sure it would work on marble, but, there is a layer of clear spray that you can apply over concrete and plaster which results in any spray paint not drying and dribbling off! It is very expensive, I believe.

If I was living there and got a tin of paint with a roller and tidied up a wall would that annoy these vandals or just encourage them???

Italian cities are far worse than anything seen in Portugal.
Even historical buildings and remains are not immune.

Any more news on how you get into town. I used to drive in on the in road then turn left half way down which I think is no longer possible. I assume I now drive all the way into the square and turn back into the out road or is that no longer allowed

The " out " road is sometimes closed at night if there is an event in the square or a group playing opposite Oasis otherwise the route you describe is the way into town.

Hi, I am returning to carvoeiro next week, can somebody please tell me if when entering the town, down the in road, I can turn right up the hill past Sully,s to get to accomadation at the top of the hill.

As you come down the IN road you will have to turn right up past the old post office and follow the signs up to Monte Carvoeiro.

Thanks EMM, I have heard that turning right up past the old PO is now banned. Is this the same road that the jailhouse bar is in.

I would turn right up pass the Solferas hotel before getting to town and then follow the signs, the route takes you past L, Orange and then a left which will take you back to Monte CVo with access to QDP , Villa Nova etc.

To get to Monte Carvoeiro, you would turn right at the PO and then immediately left and follow the road up. As far as I am aware you can still turn right at the PO and go straight on up the steep hill past the Jailhouse.

How do they do it, noticed on the square webcam what looked like another car trying to go the "wrong " way round the square ??

Just returned from 2 weeks in the sun, my 4th visit to the town in 7 years. The square is now just a glorified race track for the local boy racers and certainly not pedestrian friendly. No signs of any sort telling you to give way to traffic in any direction, the police more interested in parking tickets to tourists than anybody else, same problem at the top of rest hill, locals parking on the paths forcing everybody to walk in the road. The major improvement though is the out road, this is now a really nice comfortable walk and at night very appealling.
One more gripe, the town seems to be developing into a smaller version of Magaluf late at night. Gangs of noisy youths. (mainly all from one bar) hope the police stop this soon.

Which bar? We arrive on 5th Sept for 11 nights and stay in Monte Carvoeiro, but often frequent the village for meal. Then late drinks and a good time, normally at Round Up.

Last Summer Sulluys was the venue of choice for the " younger crowd " until the manager fell out with the police.
It seemed to us that Mungos was the place this year.

But there are plenty of other bars and Mungos will soon realise that they may get the kids for a few weeks /year but there are many of us who visit all year round and don,t arrive ******* and don,t make a few beers last all night.
