Someone asks a question on this forum and someone else or several other people will post a response, if they know the answer (of course in between the usual banter).

In this case it seems no one, who is currently using the forum, has an answer. If I knew the answer I for one would post but unfortunately having never bought a second hand car here, I don't. It looks like tbbr will just have to ask around when he is next in the Algarve.

I know what Cowboy wrote wasn't exactly what tbbr was looking for but it was a very useful aside and well worth posting such valuable advice.

Maybe all the users on this forum are driving around in brand new Jags.

Try the buy, sell or exchange section on this site - there have been second hand cars for sale on there - maybe sellers can help you?

The contribution of Guests has been dismissed earlier. I posted the www.standpt.com web site for several reasons. By searching you get an idea of the asking prices of used cars here. By using the advanced search you can check to see what is available in the Algarve. Currently 217 used cars. It gives links to dealers which should be useful. Whatever dealer is suggested in this forum you will only know a good car when you have driven it.

Just remembered a guy, who got my mate's jeep through the inspection after all sorts of problems and hassles. He has a small workshop near Portimão and from time to time he picks up second hand cars, which he makes sure are roadworthy and reliable enough to get through the inpsection etc. PM me tbbr if you want a number to chat with him. He might also be able to give you dealer recommendations. See we are trying (very trying). :D

REF: GUEST'S SOUND ADVICE TO TBBR "ASK AROUND"

I would never recommend with regard any purchase....unless I was a qualified person in that field and therefore, registered with the correct authorities and with the correct PI Cover.....obviously guest you have both
So TBBR follow anoymous Guest's precise advice.....and ignor those of us who reside here in the Algarve and Cowboy and other's advice on checking the goods out prior to your purchase.

TBBR, so you have not looked on the internet, Portuguese telephone book, media rags, along the sides of roads etc for car lots and then checked if the seller(s) are legal etc etc..

Guest in so far as your statement on "sticking to the point" I would suggest you view your own posting. Better still put your money where your mouth is and registered as a member.

Like Cowboy says don't waste peoples time.

He is almost certainly breaking the law I would think. I can't imagine that any Portuguese garages are certified for MOT's. Also these are now entered directly into the DVLA? database by the garage, so possession of a dodgy certificate won't do any good at all.
