Perhaps it was so expensive because you phoned him at 5 o'clock in the morning :lol:

A decent built in combination microwave/oven as we have seen in the local electrical stores is not that far off the price Licy was quoted.

One of the main reasons for buying in Portugal is that if anything goes wrong with your UK purchase within the guarantee period you have no recourse other than to take it back to the UK.
Where would your cost saveing be then ?

That may well be with the microwave but the other items have European cover or so it seems. The TV's were used for a couple of months in relation to the 32" and 3 weeks for the 40" because I wanted to see that they worked well. TV's these days are very reliable so decided to take the chance. The EBAC company also said it would be covered in Portugal. The choice was not so good in Portugal. I think the microwave ovens are not always stocked because I could not easily find large combination type on websites. the kitchen company is definitely Portuguese and not run by expats.
Anyway we arrive tomorrow to see our furniture in, albeit the builders (Portuguese) are again behind so will have to stay in a local villa as no bathrooms yet, also still waiting for worktops and appliances in the kitchen. So much for we have it all in the warehouse and it will take 2 weeks. guess what they meant was the cupboards were in the warehouse and they would take a week and then add in another week several weeks later makes 2 weeks. :roll: :D weather looks good on the Internet at least so please keep it that way.

Good luck Licy, hope all goes well. :) I now start to believe you that building a second home there is not exactly on the cards at the moment! :?

Well we ended up hiring a villa as bathrooms still need to be installed. We have been fitting the lights and wardrobes today. The builders are there doing bits of tiling and some ground work to the sewers. The kitchen tops and appliances probably won't go in for a couple of weeks. Tiling around the pool and the attention to detail is fab, which is why delivery seems to be late AGAIN :lol: outside painting and drive way as well as bedroom terrace tiles still need to go in. Staircase railings also yet to be installed. Would love to think when we leave the inside will be pretty much finished. :roll:

Easyjet are only taking bookings to October 2012, so that's no use. :)

Hello Lady Licy! :)

Well, you seem in good form despite no bathroom and having to rent a villa! :? From now it is the countdown to your lovely new home being completed as bit by bit it is all taking shape.

Once you are out there and see things being actually being done then the stress level reduces. Sitting back in the UK thinking about the building work is like looking at a kettle to boil - it never does! :D

Your real dilema which you have to face is is the champagne. I mean, do you:

1. Drink a glass with clever you and clever hubby and toast a momentus job well done! Or;
2. Smash the bottle against the villa's new wall and bless the house and those who all rent in her. Or;
3. Smash the bottle on the heads of the builders causing the delays! :lol:

Portuguese tiling is the best on the world. You have to hand it to the Portuguese: they live for their work s opposed worklng to live!

When your house is finished you will have both made good money on it. It won't be a nest egg - it will be a palatial egg! :)

LB save to say no way will be finished in years time, unless of courier we out in the plans for the master suite :lol: Not sure how much time they take off over Christmas. Fingers crossed inside fi iced in next 3 weeks and outside better give plenty of time and say 2 months.

JF
going back tomorrow to put up some more lights, finish one of the wardrobes, work out were my daughters beautiful pencil drawings will go. Sad, but my daughter and her fiancée have to go home. We have another week to chivy builders and keep the architect sweet. :? Landscapping is still a bit off yet though. Rather expensive :cry: getting the gate people and Mark from Skyrealm in Monday morning to see what's what. :D

You may need to put a slight Italian touch to your fab new home because like Rome, Casa Tranquila was not built in a day! :)

Do the builders work on a Sunday then?

Oh dear! :( That seems to be the problem then - unless the owner is on site on a regular basis or an independent supervision manager is employed(more cost) then the work schedule gets delayed or sloppy. And to think that Licy and her husband from the UK are giving them employment and putting money in their pockets.

" Been there, done that, wearing the T shirt " even holding back a performance payment did not seem to speed things up.
There are also 2 bank holidays in Portugal this month ( 1st and 8th ) in addition to the christmas shutdown.
