Hi, it was A Rede and closed last Friday. I think that those who had walked up the hill to find it shut (strange to do so on a Friday - was shut all day) tried Vimar as it is right next door and had a good number of people already in. Please don't let this put you off as I will go again, but I will check how busy it is first. I saw the cook preparing carrots and othe veg, most reasturants do this well before opening as part of their normal prep. As I say they were very busy.

Ate at Vimar tonight and had a good (by CVO rather than Michelin standards) meal at € 40 for 2 including drinks.

Interestingly enough, at 9 o'clock, the place was full whereas A Rede next door in spite of (or perhaps because of) the annoying 'pullers' and live music only had 2 tables occupied.

Joao told us that in the next few weeks they are fitting a traditional wood-burning oven in the extension at the back of the premises to provide meat cooked slowly in the traditional Portuguese manner - should be worth anticipating.

Perhaps people are starting to appreciate good food at reasonable price rather than 'no bones soup' and 'viagra sauce'

Right at the top on the left hand side going up.
We ate there a couple of weeks ago and we were quite disappointed with our meal, the mushroom sauce on my pork with figs was exactly the same creamy pepper sauce that was on my husband's steak, the vegetable portions were minute.
The waiter/owner was moaning about lack of business all the time!

We had chicken piri there a few weeks ago (because the takeaway was closed)
It awas cheap, average meal as expected. Some of the other meals we saw looked very nice though

We had today couvert, Salad/soup, huge beautifully cooked solha (plaice) with ample vegetables, molotoff with strawberries, coffee and white wine (with extra offered) for €8.50 each.
It was so good, and bear in mind that I am a typical tight Yorkshireman !!, that I left € 20.

The other interesting thing was that approximately 80% of the diners were locals who are very fussy about where they eat

We were really pleasantly surprised by Vimar. Doesn't try to pretend to be what it isnt, and what it does, it does well.
Recommended.

I know. Started the thread and am disappointed to report.
Just returned home and tried this restaurant again early in our holiday as we had enjoyed it in the past.
We booked a table for 730 pm, but there was a large party of c20 Dutch/ germans arrived at 7.45. We waited 1 hr for our starters, and then a further 40 mins after our starters we were told our main courses was now sold out and would have to choose again! Preference was given to the party t ll imes and when we said we were unhappy we were initially ignored and then a bottle of red was dumped on the table!! Great, but due to the delays we had already polished off. Bottle of red on a virtually empty stomach.
They had no idea how to handle a busy restaurant and we ended up paying and leaving as they were not bothered. We had our main course at Marisquiria a little further down and Joa was as wonderful as ever.

We were in Vimar on Sunday night when Adelino was playing guitar and singing. The food was brilliant, not huge amount but just right. Music is played at perfect volume and mixture of songs was ideal. Wish we were here next week to go back. We will be there in December again. Sad to hear that someone had a bad experience but sometimes these things happen.

went today for the cheapie lunch excellant value for €8.50 also good choice for each course

We have been coming to CVO for over ten years now, but had never tried Vimar before. This time we decided to give it a try, as several of our favourites were closed. Our feeling is that it lacks something in terms of ambience, and the service was slower than I would have expected when only three tables were occupied, but we could not fault the food. I had the pork fillet with figs and Lynda had chicken with mango sauce. I hadn't found these items on any other local menus, and we will almost certainly go back.

and very enjoyable he is too,nice to have a bit of background music while you are eating
