Or, if you want to push the boat out, the best Italian restaurant in the area is La Bella Vita at Clube Atlantico, beyond Rocha Brava.
More expensive but well worth it.

Wouldn't go out my way to go to Via Italia or Villa Medici ~ but La Bella Vita is a favourite of ours and in a class of it's own ~ to go there is a real treat.

Hi Horzah

It may be because the numerous failings of Via Italia have been well documented on this site for quite a few years. Not many people have anything good to say about it and I am certainly bored with complaining about it, as i think are many.

Ok....here is a precis....to save you the work.....

Via Italia vies with Boteca at the top of the Monte Carvoeiro hill for having the nicest position, and being the worst restaurant in Carvoeiro , if not the Algarve.
Via Italia has consistantly attracted the worst reviews for any restaurant, not just the worst italian.

Inexplicably some people give it reasonable reviews. I cant be sure that if on those days Via Italia is having an off day.....or whether I should worry what sort of standards the people that rate it have!!

I would have thought that the fact that this topic is 3 pages long and has been going for 5 months would indicate that enough has been said about Via Italia for someone to make their mind up! Since the overwhelming opinion is very derogatory then it is only to be expected that other far better Italian restaurants be suggested.
Vialla Medici is very good but La Bella Vita is different class albeit more expensive.

I'd suggest a more logical approach would be to start a thread which discusses Italian restaurants in general. If I wanted to learn which Italian restaurants were better than others I would'nt assume that a thread entitled 'Via Italia' would be the place to look - I would expect to find people discussing their experiences of that particular restaurant. Just because others have been discussing a place for months/years does not mean that it remains a good or bad place to go. If it constantly gets a bad press then the topic should be locked.

Don't agree, horzah. I only looked at the topic yesterday as I wanted to know whether it was a decent italian as I was looking for one. So I, for one, have found it useful. And as for locking the thread because people don't like the restaurant - why would you want to do that?

I just assumed that this forum would follow a basic forum tenet found in forums all over the internet - in specific threads stay on-topic

It would be most useful to have a discussion about the merits of Italian restaurants - such a thread might be entitled 'Good Italian Restaurants in Carvoeiro' NOT 'Via Italia'

Failing that continue as you wish - I certainly have more important things to worry about being neither retired, a home-owner in lovely 'CVO' nor a forum poster with a legendary number of posts

My only intention was to tell others about the negative experience I had in 'Via Italia'.

I have done that so I'll move on and say 'Job done'.

I don't feel inclined to start any threads regarding decent Italian Restaurants in CVO as I don't know of any but I certainly know where to look now.

welcome to this forum Horzah, where members will find every opportunity to go off topic and sometimes downright hijack a topic for their amusement. I know it is very frustrating at times, but if you stick around you'll soon learn to ignore such antics and look for the truly informative bits and pieces. Everyone here loves Carvoeiro and most often you get good advice and most importantly for those of us who are far away a daily glimpse at life in our favourite home away from home.

Nicely put Heini, Horzar sounds like someone who always gets his way and domineering to me. Is that right Hozar, by the way eaten at this establishment twice, the second time to either confirm the first time was "a bad night", won't be going back I'm afraid.
