Re: Will the Square be sorted out by September?
At the moment cars have to go somewhere until it is all finished then we can then see how the traffic flow will happen in the village, I think we all need to be patient and not be so negative about this work, I am sure it will look great when it is finished, just let them get on with it and we will see at the end.

Re: Will the Square be sorted out by September?
Hi, Coming out cvo on 1st june, looking forward to seeing the square and finding my way round again.
Some downbeat comments about the roadworks on here but if you are english then should be used to them .The roadwork and downbeat comments.
No doubt I will be one of drivers going up or down the wrong way or getting lost round the centre of town.
Have prices gone up much with since the credit crunch ????

Having just read some of the directions for the in-out and out-in roads I can see that I will enjoy driving round the town.
No doubt adding to new sport of Watch the Tourist getting lost in the roadwork if any local should see a very white english man in silly shorts
going red in the face and looking very confused please just point me in the right direction to vale de milo Oh and bring me a beer out the car to calm me down
Looking forward to coming out and having a great time .

Just had a look at the webcam pics but everything looks bleak and a bit concrete and dull, straight lines everywhere - surely there are plans to soften the image.

This is the plan put forward for the square and what they are going from I believe, as you can see the idea was for straight lines and 'modern' I expect and hope that businesses will put tubs of flowers/plants outside and we are all hoping that maybe some trees and seats will appear when it is all finished. As said before we really do need to wait and see with this one as we are all just guessing and speculating at the moment.

On the webcam it looks as if traffic is negotiating its way through the square, I thought it was to be free of traffic? - does anyone know if the square is to be pedestrians only ? Very odd.

Deadfred - the prices have only 'increased' because your £ can't buy nearly as much as it did before the 'credit crunch'. As an example - this time last year the best steak at Villa Medici cost €23 - that was £17.69 sterling - this year the steak is still €23 and depending on the day you change your money it could easily be £23 - that is a 24% price hike and no fault of the restaurant.
Re: Will the Square be sorted out by September?
American Pie, my understanding is that the cut across the square is temporary, while the "out" road is completed. It should then cross in front of the off-licence/Metabixo. My main worry is that there seems to be no restrictions on traffic, as I thought was intended. When I last checked the web-cam, there were 6 cars crossing the square, another one coming down Rua do Paraiso onto the square and a bus parked in front of the hotel. This is pedestrian friendly?

Re: Will the Square be sorted out by September?
A lot of the traffic coming into the square is tourist traffic unfamiliar with the changes, once the word gets around that there is no parking in the area this should diminish.
Locals are taking the left turn and then left again.
If there was clearly understood signage on the " IN " road discouraging through traffic continuing into the square this would help.

Agree with your last comment, EMM. All traffic should be encouraged to take the left turn by the old bakery. I know that makes getting onto Rua do Farol more difficult, but I thought the whole point was to keep traffic away from people, so it would be worth it.

Twenty three quid for a steak is staggering even in Holland its only about fourteen quid. My last trip to Swanage about 3 weeks ago you could get 2 steaks and a bottle of wine for 20 sovs. I think a lot of these establishments in CVO will not exist next year if these are the prices they are charging. Unbelievable

I assume we are talking about " good quailty fillet steak " in whch case at a decent restaraunt £20 + is the going rate.
Pubs etc cannot serve this quality of meat for £10/head
There is " steak and then there are chunks of beef " there is a world of difference.

I may come from the deep south but 23 pounds is a lot of money for steak especially in a tourist area like CVO.I had a chateau briand in Xicos last time I was there in March and quite frankly for the 80 euros it cost for the 2 of us plus drinks it was a complete rip off. The two steaks plus a bottle of wine for 20 quid in Swanage was much better and yes it was a pub meal. You really do come across as a bloody snob and yes I do know the difference between steak and chunks of beef.
Bit down in the dumps as I have only had 28 weeks worth of bookings for my place in Swanage so far this year. Tant pis last year it was 31 weeks
