and I do so agree!
I think if Joe had his way it would be restored as close as possible to its original design and I know he's working on the reconstruction of the interior via photos.Im sure he'll post them when hes completed.Have you seen his photos of the reconstructed outside?Excellent and wouldn't it be great if it happened for real?
Regarding CVO characters....Ive had some very informative messages from 'Vic' on this topic..a CVO chap living in UK...and I hope to follow up on this on my next visit!

but if it was restored wouldn't carvoeiro look so different? I have a view of The house etc on my desktop at work (in fact I think it is one of dalcassian's off the website?) and I can't imagine the same view with a pristine house at the top. It just wouldn't seem right... like giving stonehenge a nice lick of paint because its fallen into rack n ruin.
Sorry dalcassian but I think I have to start the campaign now to stop you getting the house unless you promise not to alter it at all but to live in it just like sopa did. You would be allowed to have a pc tho so you can send us regular newsletters and updates.

Thats as maybe & I understand your sentiments....but its nice to see the house as it may have looked and i for one appreciate Joe's photographic work...I also received email& pics from him last night of his work on the inside which is very impressive...nothing wrong in restoration if carried out sympathetically...which Im sure he would..
I rather like Brenda's idea of a living museum..a record of how the original owners lived....
But as niether of these ideas are likely to happen..you'll get your wish B2D.....and we'll have to dream on..........ellie..

Funny you should mention I could live in the house like poor old Sopa!
I have asked a couple of times about 'squatters rights' in Portugal and been ignored. (Much like any other homeless person.)

I do like the idea of turning it into a musuem. Anybody got the address of the Camera in Logoa? Maybe I could get them to fund it and have me as the curator!

Oh by the way, I had a look at Stonehenge earlier this year and I do agree, it could do with a lick of paint. I thought Emerald Green would look great. Now that's a job I could have done by the 17th of March. (Saint Patricks Day, in case anyone didn't know!)

noone will ever be able to renovate it or ever live in it, it's too close to the sea. There is a law (if I remember rightly) that prohibits any building closer than 50 mts from the cliff edge, correct me if I'm wrong

As most of the cliffs around the Carvoeiro area are in danger of falling into the sea (the reason there are no blue flags handed out) they'd never let anyone restore. Unless large quantities of dosh are passed under the table in a blue bag

Blue bag! Well now, sure that's no problem.

Only here in Ireland we use 'brown envelopes'. If any of you have tuned into the 'Planning permission,' 'inside trading', 'beef tribunals', and all the other shinanigans going on here on the mainland, you would know.

Anyway, I think the "Stop the Restoration" campaign looks like winning. We are coming out to Cvo later this year for one last look before shutting up on the subject. Anyone got anything to say about 'The Almansor Hotel'?

Hi Carvoeiroeans,
Just hit on a great idea!

How about I start "The House on the Hill Project"? I can put the princely sum of €100.00 into the pot to start things rolling. (Not down the hill!)

With enough public contributions and some sponsorship from local businesses and interested parties we could approach the powers that be to save the house. It could be turned it into a tourist attraction like a museum:)
Fund raising events could help. All suggestions welcome!
I will be coming out in May with my Good Lady to inspect the house for myself. Any builders or architects around Cvo are welcome to come on the tour of inspection. Any takers?

To Dalcassian,
we stayed at Almansor a couple of years ago, very pleasant position especially if in a room overlooking pool and cliffs/cove. Smooth running,
nice interior and helpful staff but beds rather too hard for my liking.
If you can put up with the bed I think you would enjoy the place. If it is of any interest I think they also do Golf or Scuba "packages".

A friend of mine has been staying the weekend and noticed the house on the hill. He took a good walk around it and decided he wanted it. Not sure how much he wanted it but he certainly has the financial backing required to do whatever.
This information is probably of no use to you at all though. He just wants it for a holiday home.

That was my first interest in the house. A beautifully restored holiday home, but alas, there have been so many obstacles raised (see all the previous posts!

) that I have almost but given up.

It's now just a pipe dream and I don't even smoke.

Does your friend happen to be a millionaire looking for a project?
