I couldn't possibly let you tackle all those young models alone, its dangerous work and its a risk I wont let you take alone.

Of course you realise that to get an 'average' we have to check out quite a lot and I'm not sure if we should ask for volunteers or just drag them in off the streets. What do you think?

I have heard that some prefer cold hands (or was that ice cubes)

Will there be an oral test, as well ?

what happens if we come across - oops, a faulty helmet?

and are the newer models the best?

In my experience I am actually finding that the newer ones are better

1970's onwards. Unfortunately I have no experience of pre 1960 to compare. Maybe Biffa, Cowboy can give advice - apologies if u have no knowledge of this technical subject - you could be in the same situation as Michael Crane and not viewed such a model for a few years

I think Maddi and Susan can give an authoritative, reliable reply and post statistics, performance tables soon

While I have followed this discussion closely I thought it better to allow others to have their say

However, since research is now to be carried out ,I feel I should give you a few pointers, less you be left groping in the dark

Colours have been previously mentioned, and it has been well established that in the Western hemisphere purple is by far the most popular.

Remember that it is not just the size of the helmet that is important, it is also the shape of the rim.

In France it was identified that women got most pleasure from the rim, while in Germany research showed that german men got more enjoyment from a good rim.

Of course the best research was carried out here in Ireland and we identified that the most important factor was that a good rim stopped your hand from slipping off when playing with the helmet

I hope this helps and look forward to hearing how you get on with the task on hand

Of course, I found a tooth brush works best

As for age.. well the older ones tend to have more character. They may be a bit more battered, but a bit of spit and polish brings them up again.

And very glad we are to have them in Norfolk as well

It means that I can go to 3 very good Portuguese restaurants within a 20 mile radius of home without having to spend 45 minutes getting through the security at Faro Airport. (by the way Gerry I thought the cafe on the first floor was pre-payment - so how did you get the hot dog before paying

As to Pammies' question around vintage or newer varieties, I think it is possible to apply some of the same thinking as with wines say or well hung beef, many things perform better with age and delight more but ultimately there comes a point where they go off

Also have to say (with some personal experience

) that the younger they are the easier they are to train - "left a bit, right a bit, of course everybody does it like this, it's all perfectly normal", etc

. . . now Biffa, I thought I knew that, but obviously not - some terrible assumption based on the age of your son - use of Biffa as a nickname - references to the time and place of your youth - who knows?

. . . but if getting it spectacularly wrong, gets me called "a doll" - I really must do it more often. (Although I think inaccuracies and complements only go together on this forum, probably not something I should try at work
