nudist beaches

Guest3 - I use Caneiros quite regulalrly and haven't yet found the nudist part (unless you include my two year old)

I imagine you are talking about the right hand side of the beach (looking towards the sea), round the cliff face that cannot be accessed at high tide as the undressed section? - can you confirm so that we don't inadvertently stumble onto the wrong part?

yes that's the one, it's one of the nudists beaches in the algarve, the other one is near ''marinha'' beach, but that one you can only access by boat, or if you're a good swimmer... but for what i've heard people stopped using caneiros beach for nudism because of beachspotters in the area.

We went on a boat trip last year from Portamoa (sorry cant spell that) when we passed by a nudist beach, in the water ahead we could see a body floating in the sea, You can imagine what we felt like, sick to the stomach. It turned out to be a nudist who had swam too far out and was just relaxing in the water, the Portugese boatman started shouting at this guy giving him a right earfull,apparently the nudist's are not supposed to come that far out because of the boat trips, and holidymakers. Gave us a laugh though (we thought he was snorkeling!! ) Jax

So much anger I didn't expect, honestly... I've come across another name for the beach right next to Caneiros, don't remember now, so it's logical one believes it's true, especially with quite a few locals not knowing what's in their neighborhood. And do not tell me, please, where to sit or to go, as I am not telling that to you, or anyone else. I haven't got anything against nudists (in their apropriate areas), but simply don't feel okay with "surprises".
Fo r others: I've used to go to Caramujeira (a little bit to the north from Sagres), that's a vast stretch of sand for everybody. So far, haven't found a better alternative for full length sun tan.

i wasn't angry at all, you've acused me of desinform people, what i've wrote is not far from the truth, you're the one that seemed digusted with someone being naked on a beach and then assumed being a naturist as well.
by the way caramujeira is next to ''marinha beach'' wich is a long way from sagres, did you ever drank or seen a very popular wine called caramujeira? it used to made there, that's why it was called caramujeira,
the beach you're on about is a surfers beach, you can sit and go everywhere you like, like i've wrote before there's nothing wrong with naturists if you don't like it don't go there, there's plenty on streches of sand along the algarvian coast to cater for every taste

Surely it is CARAPATEIRA, apologize to everyone, simply was going yesterday to a friends party in Caramujeira, and all day long that word was on the tip of the tongue...

After reading all of the postings, I still wonder what is the normal beach attire in the Portugal area. Is it common to find the beaches topless, or are they reserved for the nude beaches? Can anyone answer? I will be visiting for the first time in about a month.

There is a nudist beach - Praia Grande, beyond Armacao de Pera. You have to drive on past the main turn off for Armacao, and head towards Pera. But be warned - whilst there are a lot of normal nudists, between the beach and the carpark are dunes, which are used as a gay cruising ground. So you may inadvertedly stumble accross something that you might not want to see. Once you get to the actual beach, it's fine though. Best thing is to walk through as quickly as possible.

topless is very normal in any beach, most of the beaches are family orientated, you can see a lot of mixed ages on the beaches, don't worry you won't see a naked person on a normal beach....

Resurecting an old topic - for you that is - but if you can only get to the naturist beach next to Caneiros, once you have rounded that headland at low tide; would one be right in assuming then when the tide comes back in, you are stuck there until it goes back out?

I think we will stick to the privacy of our roof terrace........
We used to go to the nudist beach at Holkham in Norfolk, and that's large enough to get your kit off in private....the conundrum appears to be that the majority of people who insist on bearing all on the beach are the very people who should do us ALL a favour and stay covered up!....unless they are Gay men, that is!!!!

In response to Mr Wallis’s comments: My question was merely to establish whether one could safely gain access to a beach where my GF and I could enjoy the natural practice of naturism. Neither of us will make it to the next series of Baywatch but naturism is a personal pleasure and not a beauty contest. We aren't flashers so we call upon local knowledge so that we can get to places where we can enjoy our holiday without causing offence or any discomfort to those who wish to lie around in sweaty and soggy swimwear. As you seem to think that gay men should be an exception, one draws ones own conclusion from that statement. We are quite happy to sunbathe and swim the way our maker intended, not lurk in sandunes performing sexual acts that are the compulsion of those who Mother nature let down.

Now I will ask again and be hopeful of an appropriate reply from someone less judgemental and more knowledgeable: does this beach get cut off at high tide? That's all.
