One irony to make you smile... my team in England is Sunderland and I must tell you that MM performed a fantastic job in getting us turned round in one season. The main reason being his man management skills that you decry so. Anybody who believes Roy Keane should have been allowed to get away with what he did is inviting anarchy to rule amongst the overpaid prima donnas modern footballers are.
We wait to see whether your new messiah will help rescue Ireland and save them from the ignominy of being known as the second worst footballing country in the British Isles behind England and Wales.

I have never eaten or seen Haggis in Ireland, nor do I want to.
We will have to agree to differ on the Roy Keane matter - but the 'Mayfield Knacker' as he is known in Cork is the difference between mediocrity and good - McCarthy got it wrong. What have Sunderland achieved?

Brian Kerr has got off to a great start and hopefully he will continue in the same vein.
Being placed behind the countries you mentioned is of no consequence in Football terms - we excell in the better game, Rugby and have the trophies and reputation for our approach and achievements to the sport. Long may that continue also.

Don't worry td, the English in me only surfaces out here when the World Cup or Euro champs are on. I've almost forgotten it now and by tomorrow it ewill all have been a bad dream, when I am on a beautiful beach on the Costa de la Luz in gorgeous weather....
Believe me, when Sunderland were in danger of breaking the record for the most consecutive defeats in 2002/2003 and most of the team was sold off when we were relegated, Mick McCarthey performed wonders last season without any cash to spend and made a team of hardworkers and kids believe in themselves. Enough to get us into the play-offs at any rate. Not pretty, but it is working. Put a few Euros on us to win the league this year!
