EasyJet cabin Baggage size change

I agree with the comments made. I think initially when you could take on a case rather than a bag or similar there was plenty of room. We have been travelling out with 2 cabin cases for about 10 years and that was way before we had our own villa. Probably about 5 years ago people putting luggage into the hold then started to bring cabin baggage as well. I'm not sure if this was partly on the basis of paying say for 1 case rather than 2. It amazes me how much people take for a week or 2. my own daughter and husband had a case each for their week. absolutely crazy. Reckon it was a case of one hat and one pair of shoes for one outfit then another for a different outfit. Got to all match. My SIL admitted to not wearing half of what he took. We only ever take one case back, putting our bag type case into the wheelie case. we do have certain items at the villa, but mainly what we bring is for the villa. On our last couple of flights no one was asked to put bags into the hold, but if the flight was totally full, sure that would be different. When we came out of Gatwick arrivals we saw a large poster saying 4 low cost airlines now let you take the cabin bag plus one plastic bag. not one we know about, bearing in mind how many times they say only one piece at the gate. It does not seem to apply to duty free mind you. Think that is crazy!

We do that too, take out a case early in the year, leave it in Portugal, take out another case maybe the next year, and when taking them home put one inside the other. You have to book seperate flights thought and this carries a bit of extra administration charge with EasyJet, though not with Ryanair.

Think the plastic bag signs airports are referring to are duty free bags, I'd say that airports lost a lot of duty free sales when the budget airlines imposed their one bag rule and have now re-negotiated their deals with the airlines.

W also take a soft large case out 2 times year that we can stuff into our hand luggage when emptied.
The cost of this has to be more than offset by the need for its contents.
We saw a " new size " bag this mornig it does look small compared to the " normal size " that was along side it.

I have a separate plastic bag to whip out with food, reading material etc once through the final check in. I must measure my current case as it was a bit smaller.
Bottom line I think it will be in relation to peak summer as probably a lot of people moan if their cabin bag goes into the hold. I would because it would cause us to wait, but if I had a case in the hold should not be a problem. Some cases I see go through look very big. I have rarely seen people challenged to place in the size checker. My second case is like a big canvas shopping bag so technically totally different dimensions. EJ are not charging (yet) for the bigger size cabbin baggage so it's not an out and out refusal for people to take their existing size case.

I'm travelling with Easyjet in October. In need of a new cabin bag I tried to purchase one in line with Easyjets new ruling ie 50 x 40 x20. I'm not sure this size exists and would therefore have to buy significantly smaller. I contacted Easyjet by phone and email and they could offer no advice as to where you can purchase this size bag!

Hampshire Rich - Who do you consider to be a decent airline? We have used Monarch, Easyjet, Thomas Cook and Ryanair in the past year when flying to Faro. They all seemed much the same to me; booked with BA in December, be interesting to compare them with above.

Sue - I normally use Flybe from Southampton as it is local to us. Howver, this year we are going Monarch from Gatwick as it saves over £100 per person - Flybe getting very expensive. The Monarch flight price includes seat selection and a suitcase per person. Have to say I didn't check hand luggage size limits. Used Monarch before and they were OK.

Have flown BA before and with early bookings they were reasonable cost.

Favourite airline is Air Malta - quick check-in, always on time and cheaper than flying to Faro. Not much help flying to Portugal though.

Not using them more than 2 - 3 times a year, I prefer those where the cost includes everything rather than having to pay for every little bit individually.

EJ gets the thumbs up from us every time. I have used Monarch once to try them because they were the same price in a sale, but there were definately add ons then. We ONLY ever take cabin bags. EJ's flights are usually on time and modern planes. I now pay £3 each way to book my seat but if not when you print your boarding card they will allocate a seat. my husband travels on business very regularly with Ryan Air and EJ as well as BA. No difference with BA, save for you pay a lot more but get free seating and some kind of food. we also flew Air Lingus when they flew out of Gatwick a few years back. My family travel on Jet2 and Flybe as well as Ryan Sir to our villa, from East Midlands and Southampton airports. Sure they are all much of a muchness. End if the day most times I book flights I check the various airlines.

The thing is really if you use the so-called "cheap" airlines such as Ryan Air and EasyJet you cannot complain about anything they do as they have to make a profit, they have to squeeze as much money out of the passengers as they can via the extras to ensure they keep their basic fares low.

If you have suitcases that need to be in the hold, if you want extra-leg room or food etc, use someone else. If you want the lowest cost and don't mind a bit of inconvenience or being sat apart, use the cheapies - but don't moan about them or their continually changing policies.

We have never had a problem with Easy Jet and used them quite a lot, good flight times out of Liverpool to Faro.
Monarch would cost us an extra £150 and we find the service and seating no better than EJ, plus LPL is a much better option than MAN as it is a small airport and they handle pax much quicker on departure and arrival.
If I was travelling long haul then I would be choosey but on a 2.5 hour flight its not a problem.

Totally agree HR. Unbelievable the number of whingers there is about budget airlines when they clearly do what it says on the tin.

Always worth checking out all prices though before booking as very often after the first batch of cheap seats are sold by 'low cost' airlines the 'full fare' airlines can sometimes be very close in price to the low cost carriers, though this soon widens again when passengers start booking these airlines and the gap widens again.Either way the later you leave it in general to book the more you pay. A few weeks before a flight the 'low cost' airlines are much more expensive than the 'full fare' airlines would have been when the flights were first released, if you know what I mean.

There can be huge differences, last month we had to return in the middle of our visit to attend a funeral.
The cost of two return flights on Ryan air at less than a weeks notice was lower than I on EJ.
The times were not as friendly but actually suited us very well.
