No fresh fish at Aldi - pingo or IM and latter is opening a new fish counter THIS week

We never buy fish on a monday as the last fresh fish market would probably have been on friday .
The boats would not have been out since then and looking at the weather have probably not been out for a few days.
This just leaves farmed or stuff that has been hanging around for a few days. ( just like Tesco et al )

Go to the municipal fish and vegetable market in Portimao. Park outside and up to the first floor. All fresh and excellent quality, but as EMM says wait until Tuesday for new fish to be brought in. Excellent quaility vegetables etc. at a fraction of the price of the local supermarkets.

Aldi is a low cost supermarket chain.

Yes, you're right about a more affluent client base. Yesterday I was in Intermache choosing a bottle of cava when a German couple came and stood next to me and started looking at the champagne, very quickly they decided upon Laurent Perrier Rose and put 4 bottles in their trolley at a mere 88 euros a bottle!

Am I missing something here? Isn't it an Aldi and as such will be like any other Aldi store anywhere in Europe selling similar produce in a similar way in a roughly similar sized store to any other Aldi?

Aldi is Aldi but we will stay loyal to Pinge Doce.
As for affluence there is just no comparison between the spending power of the average tourist or expat and the local Portuguese population.

I'm with you Sue I shop anywhere depending where I am, some people are snobbish and don't like to shop at stores they think are, in their minds, inadequate.
Aldi do a nice range of cheap wines and their fruit and veg are extremely good.

Be aware they only accept Portuguese credit cards, which is a bit short-sighted if they're hoping to attract their share of tourist custom.

I think we've used our Nat West debit card in the past. Aldi in the UK only accept debit cards.

ALDI is ALDI, wherever you go, so stop getting all stuffy about it.
If you shop with that in mind, there are some excellent things to buy. Good fruit and veg, cheap wine, German cooked meats and chocolate.
It's a once in a while shop....just as it is back home in England.

As good Germans though.....ALDI are relieved that EMM is enforcing his Portuguese ethnic purity ethos by shopping at Pingo.
BUT....having said that, the real Portuguese like it because it's cheap!

We have an Aldi a mile from us in Droitwich and I have to say there is a huge difference between this and the ones on the Algarve. English is the first language with most of the Algarve shoppers.
