what role does a moderator do?
As someone who has recently benefited from the sweeping red pen of the moderator, this post may seem a little ungrateful, but I have to say that I am generally with the vociferous majority who have posted so far.
Steen has always locked posts that go round and round in circles and that seems to make perfect sense to me. Additionally G and Karen have said that they would remove anything that was personally abusive, slanderous or illegal and I would agree with that. I personally asked them on the forum to intervene when someone committed the offence of "false representation" and only wish they had been around to deal with that quicker to save the endless circle of personal abuse that followed.
Here comes the 'however' . . . I think moderators should warn individuals by PM if they are a member or within the topic if they are guest and if they continue ban the IP address. Unfortunately I do not think the sweeping red pen today under car importation really illustrated moderation, I have to say is simply looked like censorship because the moderators didn't agree with what was being said (not necessarily the case but what it looked like).
And to continue with one of my now famous monologues (which wont be a monologue if even only one of you responds). What I actually didn't say on the aforementioned topic but was clearly visable between the lines of my posts was that I too thought tj was rude, he asked a question that people gave opinions on and he didn't like what he read so he became, in my opinion, offensive (as in attacking) and rude. At that point, however every yard of moral highground the forum held was disappated by forum members and guests alike responding to him like for like.
Well that my twopenny worth (more like £50) on the subject.

Yeah but wheres the harm, maddie,we,re all grown up and dealing with strangers, have to honest to come from work and sit on the sidelines while a couple of heavy waight wordsmiths have a go at each other and not have to break it up,well ,it can be just great. And by the way moderaters i think you should push the use of the word SORRY there are going to be lots of misunderstandings and this sorts out a lot of bad feelings.
Sorry madds i don,t mean your a heavy weight,ah ye know what i mean,

As the one who questioned what the role was of a moderator, I am still confused since in the case of Maddis contribution to the car import thread -I fail to see what and why it had to be cut out?
Indeed if this is to be the future tone of this forum, I think I wont bother, since it is the view of some who write here, that they think those who live in the Algarve do so a valium filled bubble and we cant say anything that might upset anyone.
this forum was quite lively, but now in seems that anyone who writes anything untoward will have their words deleted....well sad day.
Hope the big M doesnt delete these words too quick

Banter to a lot of us but some people are offended?
Sexist HA HA
Mention ironing once and the girls are teasing encouraging more. Only used the “i” word in the first place because I thought I might prevent someone saying something 10 times more sexist.
Irony I love it HA HA
