events section continued

I found the Events entries very useful . . . it listed no end of places to avoid.

Mind you, I do think the forum needs some way of letting the bar and restaurant owners inform us of what's on and when. A lot of forum members are interested in this information and if we have less of it or none even - the forum will be the poorer because of it.

Perhaps something is happening behind the scenes. I hope so.

Re the Main web site. The only time I ever go on there nowadays is to read Carol's newsletter. I would imagine the overwhelming majority of forum members have the forum bookmarked and visit the main site occasionally. Therefore, the majority of the owners' customers do not frequent the main pages often enough to rely solely upon that location to advertise their businesses.

Ooops, there is a major flaw in that statement.

Its probably true (and your "poll" may bear this out) that a large number of forum readers bypass the main page, but I'd hazard a guess that far more holidaymakers coming to Carvoeiro (and thus potential customers of bars) visit the main website and do not look in on the forum. (I'm sure Steen has some stats that may amplify that).

I'm sure that this observation just goes to make the discussion about pseudo-ads in the forum even more difficult, but its worth remembering that forum posters are a mere microcosm of visitors to the town of CVO.

I log on via the home page, I have often found the information & businesses advertised there very useful.

I do the same, mainly because I like to look at the current webcam picture in passing, and sometimes to see what the weather was like earlier in the day, but also to look at any other new info.

Off course, it all depends upon who bothers to respond. I am very surprised by the number of members entering via the web site. I might give it a go myself to see what I'm missing.

I log on to the forum using a bookmark. I have separate bookmarks for the webcams on Matabixo and the beach. I rarely look at the webcam in the ice-cream shop any more. The only time I use the main web-page is for the newsletter.

I log on via the home page to look at the webcam, weather and anything new then enter the forum.

I think it's useful to see what's going on in CVO although accept the issue about businesses paying to advertise etc on the main site.

However, compared with the distribution of flyers which takes place in CVO, contributing to littering, I'd rather see information on this site locked, paid for or whatever .
