well well well - nothing like a good spat !

In an attempt to bring a bit of rationality back to this, a forum on restaurants is always going to be a bit subjective and everyone's usage of the english language is never going to be universally consistent.

To be fair to Silver Fox (and I have to be, he is my father-in-law !) the restaurant scene in CVO is not "fantastic" but anyone reading some of my old posts will know that we do believe there are some good restaurants there, and you will see SF eating in them - Elle and Ela's, Maximes, Algar Seco Bistro, Rui's in Silves, Leao de Porches, sometimes Chrissy's in Lagoa, and of course Rei de Praias.

There is nothing wrong with lively debate and surely the role of the users of this forum is to alert others to the good, the bad and the ugly. Bon appetit to all visitors to CVO - not there myself this year as Taxwoman and I are off to explore the culinary scene in Palma and Mallorca next week.

:)
Taxman, I get the impression that silver fox is a bit of a gourmet?

As for myself, I have very straightforward tastes. First of all the restaurant or pastelaria has to be clean. I like good lighting as I like to see what Im eating. Im not a fussy eater and I like food to look, smell good and above all I want to feel satisfied tummy-wise when I leave the table. If all those boxes are ticked, then Im a happy bunny.

Ive lived in Portugal twice..once for a couple of years and then again for almost a year. I can honestly say that even when Ive eaten inland in out of the way places (where the Portuguese eat) that the places have always been clean and the food satisfying.

Anyway, seeing as Im the only cook in the family, Im always very grateful to have my meals cooked for me. I love dressing up and going out for dinner..its a real treat for me :)

I absolutely agree there is nothing like a good spat & this was nothing like a good spat, certainly not an excellent or fantastic spat. :D

In all seriousness just out of curiosity I'd like to know Silver Fox's definition of an excellent meal & in which restaurants he's enjoyed them.

well SF is actually in CVO at the moment, probably to be seen noshing at any of the restaurants I mentioned above or possibly Primavera, Bella Vita, Brasserie Marinha or O Algar.

SF is undoubtedly a bit of a gourmet - he can also cook very well himself - and maybe he is a bit fussy about his grub. On his behalf I suggest that he would use the term "excellent" for the Carabineiros or Tiger Prawns at Rei de Praias with a nice chilled bottle of Perramanca Blanco.

He could be doing that right now -lucky b
