Food supplies at Christmas
yes a season of goodwill..as long as you all get to go shopping on christmas day..never mind about those who might also want a day off...think about them for a change and their families and not always your demands for shopping time....it really is pathetic if you cant do without for one day.

"Guest", the store will either be Open or it Won't...it's the owner's choice....if it's Open, and that's the original question, why not use it? After all, the resturants will all be closed. yes its open....but as one shopworker (do they have a choice?) told me in england that if they stayed open until 3 a.m in the morning someone will walk in at 2.55 am and say Oh i have just forgotton something...it use to be a time when shops closed early christmas eve and stayed shut until dec 27...how did people manage then but they cant now? i cannot see why with freezers and fridges someone needs to shop on xmas day...those who demand it are just like modern day scrouges who demand a service of others while they will not give it themselves.
for those arriving at an airport is it really so hard to bring enough food with them in their 22 kilos allowance .sufficent for the day thereof
if you carry the logic of this arguement then why bother shutting at all...after all someone will no doubt need to run out to the shops on christmas day afternoon as they "need " something....or have just arrived at the airport and require something...what a materialistic society it has become and judging by the hostile comments from this thread it seems that nothing must stop anyone going to the shops..whatever day or time!

Hostile responses? As I recall this all started with a straighforward question about possible opening hours on Christmas day. It wasnt a demand for service. It is YOU started the hostile responses, nobody else.
It really is none of your business how people lead their lives, nor your right to pass judgement on others. If consumers want to shop at all hours and retail outlets are willing to accomodate them, then so be it.
It could also well be that retailers wish to open at unsocial times to gain a competitor advantage. Again that is their right. Yes, it may inconvenience staff, but I am sure they were informed on taking up employment what their terms of employment would be, and if they didn't like them then they didnt have to work there.

As someone said previous--plenty of folk have to work over Christmas /have no choice--nurses--police--ambulance-doctors --firemen.
I Know --married to a fireman--it was 5 years before kids had Xmas with their dad because of shift system.

Will I irritate Guest even more--by saying we have "24 hour" stores here in UK ---a god send for many shift workers-and look at all the employment it brings!
Its when people "dont" shop--you have to worry--our local town seems to be dying on its feet--with its two supermarkets mostly half empty>I speak to friends working there--and theyre fearful of losing their jobs.In a rural area--its often the only employment to be found apart from working on the land.
Going shopping has also become a part of our social structure--a meeting place--making friends -especially in the big stores that have coffee shops--what could be nicer at the end of an hour or twos shopping?
Guest--dont be too worried about workers doing those few extra hours over the festive season ;Im sure theyre well-recompensed--and are glad of it. To be out of work with not much dosh is worse-I know--I've been there.

I certainly didn't intend for all this to kick off, it's only a simple enquiry after all which this forum is very good for. Thanks to all that helped here especially Elle who very kindly offered to do some shopping. I have now managed to get the tel number for Intermarche and will call them tomorrow. I think with a bit of luck our management agent can sort out any extras as well as the normal welcome pack who I will also call Monday. I should put the record straight though as it's not me and my wife going out there for Christmas, sorry if I misled anybody.
