Re: rainfall

I left Faro earlier today in sunshine. Arrived Tuesday and has a lovely sunny afternoon so had lots of comments about bringing the sun with me. Next day cloud/hazy sun then yesterday some showers as LJ posted. Not bad over the 4 days after all the rain which is very evident by all the standing water, newly formed ponds with birds on them etc It did get progressively colder each day but nothing like as cold as back at home.

since last report another 2 inches to add to total, interesting to see report in this weeks "news"

here as follows..

Guess what? It was a wet February, says Met Office
13/3/2010

A series of low pressure systems can be held responsible for the past rainy month of February, according to Portugal’s Met Office (IM).

Data from the IM shows that large quantities of rain fell last month, particularly in Madeira, where average daily quotas of rain were between 144.3 millilitres (on February 20th) and 129 millilitres (February 2nd), in Funchal.

The amount of rain that fell on February 20th was the most since 1920. The average quantity of rainfall for the entire month this year (458.7 millilitres) was seven times superior to previous months of February and the highest ever since weather records began in 1865.

On mainland Portugal and in the Azores rainfall was also higher than average. On the Island of Flores (off the Azores archipelago) precipitation last month was the highest recorded since 1970.
