Walk Monday 6 May:Silves Enxerim/Windmill/Eucalyptos Woods

Bit like London buses, you wait for one new walk, and here's another.....actually, it's a new interpretaion of an old faithful.

For those that know the usual approaches to the Silves windmill, this walk is from Enxerim and scales the eastern side of the hill. It involves crossing ( & recrosing) a stream, but there are stepping stones. It also misses out the housing in the outskirts off Sives and bypasses all the lavadas , so it's all 100% countryside, and much nicer than other walks in this area.

There are obviously some steep hills to climb, though the 2 steepest have work-arounds and are thus optional. Duration is about 2 h 15 m.
Walking boots or stout trainers are recommended, along with walking poles.....and a hat and water...but bring some wet weather gear in any case!

Please note that the walk will be cancelled of the weather is poor. I shall put a note on this website at about 0830 that morning, 0900 at the latest.

Start : 1000

Directions:From CVO, go to Silves and cross the bridge.
Turn right on the N124 , and bear right over the next roundabout in the direction of Messines.
Go past the Galp petrol station , on the left , until, after about 1.5kms from the bridge, you turn left almost opposite the residential guest House Vila Sodre.

Almost immediately, turn right, and park after about 100m, just before the Cafe Cantinho do Enxerim.
IF you go over the bridge on the N124, you have gone too far!

Just checking the meet point on google earth.
I can spot the galp but not clear if the "left then right" is before or after the slight right bend?

The turning to the left is before the right hand bend over the bridge ( which goes over the river), travelling from Silves......if coming from the Albufeira/Messines direction on the N124 ( probably your better bet) then its the first turning on the right as you enter Silves ( you will see a " welcome to Silves" sign & the Cafe Enxerim on a rise to your right). Am sure you will find it OK!

We had 9 people on the walk, though it was quite hot and quite a slow pace at 2 h 45 m.....we welcomed Hamish, Margaret, Ian & Ann for the first time. Photos to follow once ( if ever!) Google + cracked!
