Walk 28 January, 2013 : Cortes & Torre
Hi all
This will be "Hilltops & Orange Groves" from Julie Statham's book page 48....it covers part of the " Vale Fuzeiros " walk which we have done many times, but puts a different perspective on it.....as long as we don't get lost, which embarressingly happened a couple of years ago when we last tried it!
It should take about 2.5 hours , but there is a nice cafe at the start/finish. Lovely views.
There are a couple of fairly steep climbs & whilst the paths are generally good , there is a downhill one that has loose scree & it is advisable to wear boots & have a stick. Good trainers should suffice.
If it's very wet, the walk will be cancelled : ring 282 380015 before 0900 : if damp, bring some wet weather gear.
As always , bring some water.
To perhaps state the obvious , the walk is at your own risk.
Directions :
From CVO, go to Silves and cross the bridge.
Turn right and follow the EN124 towards Sao Bartolomeu de Messines. After about 12kms, you will see a turning on your left signposted " Cortes" and "Torre". Turn here and drive to Torre, about 1 km. Park by side of road......there is a steep carpark on the left before the cafe, or best to park by the side of the road, on the right, just before the hill.
Please meet for a 1000 start.

What gorgeous weather, not a cloud in the sky, and it's amazing how different the valley looked, walking from a different side than usual. We welcomed newcomers Janet & John as well as Ray & Sandie and Colin & Lyn, along with many familiar faces. We didn't get lost and had a good turnout of 20 walkers, the walk taking about 2 hrs 20 mins.
